My kid just installed a game that we had on the old computer and now the new computer popped up a new hardware found window. It then installed the drivers for a floppy drive. Thing is, this, like most newer computers, doesn't have a floppy drive... My antivirus even scanned about 4.5 million files on this so called floppy drive. WTF? This is gonna drive me insane till I figure out what is going on...
Edit to add the program that he installed was MS's Zoo Tycoon. Could it perhaps have started a ram drive? If so, why would it have the A: designation?

Did the game configure a 'virtual' drive of some sort where it installs files for fast reference? And if so, perhaps this disappears when the computer is restarted but the game is not?
Edit: too slow...reboot and not start the game to see if it is still there. 'A' drive designation as it is intended for new systems that do not have floppies by default?

| if you can see the new drive on your explorer, try accessing it and tell us what files are in there. |

I tells me to insert a disk... After all it thinks there's a floppy drive. I'm gonna pull my very short hair out of my head...

Now that I think about it, I noticed the 'new hardware' after I installed Norton's Internet Security and it needed to restart the computer. Could that have anything to do with it? Also, what is the Windows program that shows all your startup stuff? I wanna check all the bases...

I prefer ZoneAlarm. I think Norton is kinda crappy and like to do things on your computer without letting you know. I get lots of false alarms from Norton when playing online games, etc. Kinda hated it, to be honest. If you must install a personal firewall or security suite, try alternatives. |
