I recommend a "Thread Resurrection Warning" that would pop up when someone clicks the Reply button on a thread that is more than 2 weeks old. Or an automatic "THIS IS AN OLD THREAD" line between the old post and the new one. This should prevent boneheads from ranting about some ancient topic and railing on the OP, who may be deceased by now. ;-)
ps: I'm serious about the suggestion. |

That'd be neat. Maybe a bar like the blue one that says "author // thread" but a light shade of red in between?
Like this, but...better. (And my threads are reversed by you get the point.)

I thought about an autolock feature, locking the thread after a period of dormancy. Tutorial threads would be excluded of course. What's the point of being able to revive old threads anyway?
Your question (or whatever) is just gonna get buried quickly.

i see that necromancers aren't very popular here :p
Ken, I like the part about the OP's being dead 2 weeks after posting a thread on DPC! |

Dead Thread, Thread Bump and what else..... I understand and agree to a point but.....
The last thing we need is a bunch of thread NAZI's.
Because when its a rule then people scream for 6 or 7 posts you bumped it or you resurected a dead thread you idiot. The thread Nazi's make thinggs twice as bad. Plus the site council now has a a new workload.
EDIT... now that i reread what you said youre asking just for a warning not a rule..... okay thats alright it wont hurt the site councils workload... but it still makes for more thread nazi's

It's just a personal warning to the person about to post. I'm often about to post in response to some argument or question when I realise that the thread is dead and it would be a lot easier if one was warned. Of course you can always choose to post anyway if you want to revive it. |

This is a good suggestion.

Silly question here, but if the thread is that old, doesn't someone have to kind of look for it to dig it out? Meaning maybe they meant to restart the thread.
Aren't people here encouraged to use the search feature to find what they are looking for before creating a new thread? If you don't find the existing threads generated before then you're berated for not searching for the old one(s).
I think the people reading and posting to threads should have some responsibility to know what they're posting to. If you just jump right in and post a reply and haven't looked at earlier postings then which way does the finger point?
Just a thought (or two). |

I thought we were supposed to search for topics already in discussion prior to starting a new thread. ?? It's happened to me a couple times. Someone will post a link and say it's been discussed already. Which is worse? Posting new comments to an old thread or starting a new thread with old discussions? |
