Hey guys,
I've been looking at getting some remote strobes, I'm sick of using flashes and I need some lights that can put out some light, enough to diffuse it if I need it.
As usual $ is still an issue, and I don't need to get these soon, but I was wondering if anyone has used alien bees as remote strobes? Can you buy a portable battery to hook them up to?
Right now my newspaper gives me lumedynes for this use, but as an intern I won't be there forever. I know a lot of people here use alien bees and love them. I'm looking for something that's fairly easy to set up for location portraits, and something to light up bball courts etc that I can clamp to rafters or whatever.
I don't think I would need beyond the 400's since I rarely go above 200 on the lumedynes. I love the lumedynes but they are pricey ...
so if there are thoughts on using the Alien Bees like this, is it possible, do they work well? I;ve looked at white lightnings for this too, they seem good but AB's still look cheaper.
I have pocket wizards so I'm not worried about their triggering system.
Also, flash duration is a concern....I'd like 1/1000 of a sec or higher ..do the AB's do that?
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. |
