I am wanting to take some photography of animals in the woods. My concern is even on a sunny day it can be dark in the woods. Also most of the time my subject will be out of flash range. How would you guys take these photos. Would you be in manual mode or A,P,S. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Rupypug

Set your camera for the highest acceptable ISO, hopefully at least ISO 400. Try using a blind, and a tripod. Inevitably, better equipment will give you better results, so if you ever plan to upgrade your camera, consider availability of lenses for the model you select. Best of luck.

Also make sure your lens is as wide open as poss - Hopefully f2.8 if it's really dark.As for modes if you have to use one other than manual go for aperture priority. That way you will always be using the lens wide open and only the shutter will change helping you keep the fastest shutter available with the light - I presume you will be using a long lens?

Thanks for all the opinions. I have a Fuji S9000 now that my wife got me for Christmas. It is an upgrade from my Fuji 3800. I am a beginner and the Fuji will be great for me to learn on as it has a full manual mode. Later as I learn more I will upgrade to the Fuji S3. Can you tell I am a fuji man. Thanks again for any advice given.
