Maybe I'm missing something simple (I do that now and then), but although I made sure my camera date and time are set correctly (i.e., 14:05 when it is 2:05 pm here in Phoenix, AZ), and it matches the time on my computer monitor (2:05 pm), when I download my picture taken at that time, the exif data shows the time as 7:08 am. The date is correct, as is the "modified" time (which is when I downloaded to my PC).
Anyone know why or how I can fix this?
Thanks. |

How are you transferring the files to your PC? |

I'd recheck the camera time, the Exif should be recording it properly.
Did you leave the battery out for a long time? Maybe it reset. |

....oh wow. Your question made me think about this, and realized that when I download, the pics download to Canon Zoombrowser EX. I don't much like using it, so I view and do simple edits - crop, resize, etc., in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. I don't yet have a comprehensive editing program - am killing myself trying to learn and understand GIMP - Anyway, I went back to check the EXIF data in the Canon program, and it is correct there. I guess that would be my original for a challenge, right? If so, I am probably ok with that.
I still wonder why ot shows up wrong in MS, though.
Thanks for the quick view and responses!
I WILL learn more as I go. Little baby steps.... |

It sounds like the MS application is offsetting the time based on your offset from UTC (universal time). I know Photoshop had a similar error for a while a couple versions back.
Bottom line, if your camera shows the correct date and time and you don't resave when you transfer (see below), your originals will be valid.
regarding transfer, I assume you are using the USB connection on the camera. You might want to consider a card reader. They're very inexpensive, and a USB 2.0 "High Speed" card reader will speed up transfer quite a bit. You can also just drag & drop your files, rather than use the Canon software. |

Thanks- I AM using a USB connection, and I think I will take your advice and go for the card reader. I have spent the weekend wrestling with the urge to buy something having to do with photography. So the suggestion is timely. The need is there. And the URGE is strong.
