Will Sigma 8mm work w/ Canon Digital Rebel XT w/ out black corners?
I have read several articles on this lens with this camera but can't find the complete answer I am looking for. I want a fisheye lens for this camera but do not want to go w/ the 8mm Peleng. Does any one out there have this camera and the lens? Do you always get black in the corners when taking pictures? I have seen some pictues taken w/ cameras w/ the 1.6x multiplier that have the black corners and some don't. I don't really want to mess with photoshop or anything to take them out. I would just like to find something that will achieve the same great effects of a fisheye with a full frame camera. Please let me know if this lens will take pictures with out the black corners and no editing.

8mm on a 1.6 crop camera you will get black corners. You need a fll frame camera to make them go away and you will have a complete circle for the image. Or maybe a 15mm lens and I don't think any black will show up.
You can cropped the image though.
this is a Peleng 8mm Fisheye on a 30D uncropped.( you can see the black corners)

Bottom line, any 8mm fisheye will give black corners. The alternative is the 16mm Zenitar or 15mm Canon fisheyes. They will cover the frame, but are not near as "fishy."
The 8mm fisheyes cover 180° in all directions to the edge of the image circle (not all of which is recorded on an APS-C camera of course). The 8mm fisheye gives very close to 180° horizontal FoV, whereas the 15mm gives about 90°, so the difference is quite dramatic.

Sounds like I may be asking for the impossible. I'd like a fisheye that still stays "fishy" but does not get the black corners. I really don't want to have to do editing to remove the black corners. |

I have seen that lens to but I think it's going to take away the "fishy" effect of the fisheye b/c of the 1.6x multiplier. Does anyone know? |

Actually, I'd forgotten that Tokina was now offering that lens in Canon mount. It should cover the frame, even at 10mm, and will give 138° of horizontal coverage (almost 170° diagonally) at the 10mm setting. That means it's going to be quite fishy.
Edit: if you want to see what a 10.5mm fisheye looks like on an APS-C camera, look at this DPC page for the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye.

Co-developed with Pentax and now release for Nikon and Canon mounts.
Pbase link for Pentax 10-17 fisheye examples.

Kirbic, do you know if this lens (the Tokina) will create the black corners like the other fisheye lenses do? |

Does anyone have the Tokina 10-17mm and use it w/ a 1.6x multiplier camera? Anyone have any sample pics w/ a 1.6x multiplier camera? |

And I believe that's to the film/sensor plane.

Not the Tokina, but also at 10mm on a 1.6 sensor.

Yep, but that's 10mm rectilinear, which is *quite* different, both in field of view, and of course in the way the image is rendered.
Per my link above, check out the DPC photos with the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye. That is almost precisely what you will get with the 10-17 at the wide end. |

Yup. You can focus about 1-2 inches away from the front end of the lens. |
