I like the skiing in Breckenridge, but from one lowlander to another, be prepared for some really bad headaches the 1st day or two. The altitude is a killer. Breck is really up there.
We have been going to Steamboat or Park City lately instead. They aren't as high, and the headaches havent been a problem.
In any case, try to stay hydrated. It helps. |

Take an aspirin (not ibuprofen) BEFORE you go up the mountain and stay away from the booze as much as possible for the first 24 to 48 hours. Drink water, water and more water until you get use to the altitude. It will really help. Saline nasal spray will help avoid the dreaded bloody nose from the lack of humidity here.
There are some really great restaurants in Breckenridge. My kids love Bubba Gump's. You may be there during the Ice sculpture contests which are fun to watch and make for great photos. Vail is a short drive away and makes for fun people watching. We hang out at Keystone, it's not as touristy. Their lake has ice skating this time of year. They also have a great sleigh ride/dinner package to the original homestead that we highly recommend

The wife and I went on a 5 day trip to Breckenridge, co back in 1999. An absolute beautiful place. We stayed at the Beaver Inn Resort overlooking the town.
As the last poster said, Water is a must, it will be your friend but don't drink to much. You can get water poisoning. Because of the altitude, around 8 or 9 thousand feet, it will take you a day or two to adjust to the thin air if you are not use to those altitudes. The water is to keep from dehydration. I know that sounds funny because it cold this time of year there but because of the elevation the sun really gets to your body even if it's cloudy.
I can't remember all the site to see but when you get there you will not have a problem finding places to visit. Vail, Co. is not to far and it is beautiful. Just wing it and have fun. Please take a lot of pictures. Take one of the resort for me if you can.

Wow!!! That shot is spectacular!!!!!! I can only hope to see something similar - much less capture it in a photograph!!!

There's a road that goes from Winter Park to Estes but it goes over 12,000 feet in elevation and is closed in the winter. Idaho Springs should be a good place to see Bighorn. Also, check and see if you can drive far enough up Mt. Evans to see mountain goats. This time of year, closed roads may prevent you from getting high enough. |

Yeah, I would say the 360 panorama of Breckenridge is 10x better. If the weather is cooperative and roads are moderately clear, I would suggest simply walking into the tourist office and saying "hey, we have 4 hrs to drive somewhere beautiful....where should I go?"
I live there and the locals have never ever let me down when I request that.

Downstairs at Eric's - awesome burgers, right on main street too.
Mi Zuppa in frisco - Soup, it hits the spot after a cold day skiing - closed on sundays though
Po Boys in frisco - Cajun in the mountains - make a damn good jambalaya

That's a great idea - thanks for the tip - as simple as it is, I'd never really thought to do that.
Wish me luck with the weather! Where do you need to go to be able to see/shoot the 360 panorama of Breck?

Did you stay at Beaver Run Resort and Conference center or is there another Beaver Inn Resort? We're staying at Beaver Run Resort (at Peak 9), so I'm sure I'll get a shot of it!
