I'm going on vacation in a few weeks and would love to get underwater and take some shots. FIlm is OK yet I can't submit here. Anyone know of any half-decent or disposable underwater digital cameras that are under $100? ..
Maybe I sound naive, but only because i am ;]

Hi, not sure of cost as in UK but I have a Pentax optio WP which is fairly cheap and excellent underwater!

You can get Kodak disposable underwater cameras for about $15. You can only use them up to 10 feet or so underwater but if all you are doing is snorkling in shallow water, this would be perfect. I have used them before and they are fine. They are not topnotch quality but they do the job.

A lot seem to be good only for 6-10ft...and for 30-60 minutes.

Well, I want to go snorkelling, and albeit I likely won't go much beyond 10ft it's possible. Especially if I go S.N.U.B.A. diving again. And I am likely to be out for more than 30 minutes.

I did find this on ebay...

how about renting a housing for your camera for a couple of days.

This camera has a "shark" mode.

You are going to be disappointed with most photography under even 10 feet. The light filtered gives a hugely blue cast and using a flash is either not an option (due to cost) or will just reflect "snow" (small particles in the water).

To get decent shots, I'd try to stay in shallow water to do photography...

I'm more concerned with 30 minute waterproof. I want something to be waterproof more than 30 minutes.

I think that's battery life, no?

I just took the olympus 740sw to Hawaii, and had a blast snorkling with it. It wasn't really great for fish type shots... I got a few Ok ones, but nothing I'd submit here. Lots of them turned out slightly blurred, or the camera missed altogether due to lag time. I got some nice shots of my kids underwater, and it did pretty well at above the water shots, like my 3 y/o riding on her boogey board. I'm not sure if it's in the 'cheap' category, though. I think it was in the $300 range. It also takes great snapshots, which is primarily what I got it for (after I dumped apple cider on my 20d while juggling Halloween candy, shoes, costume pieces, my duaghter and my camera).
some examples:

Nope, it's a waterproof thing. Which is what's odd. And a lot of cameras have such 30 minute under-water limit.

A friend of mine has an Olympus with the underwater casing - he said i could borrow that. Life is just fine now. Thanks everybody. Another idea I had was getting one of those "bag" type covers for my Lumix.

You can try something like this for a P&S digital you might already own.
