Waaaaaaa. . .these late voters for the Halloween challenge are killing my rating that was so nice for a change. Stop them before it gets worse. LOL
11/04/2003 12:24:37 AM · #2
What we need is a STOP NOW! Button I think Sonny. It would then be a gamble as to when you push it.

Mine (for Infinite) started mid 5's, got up to 6.3 at around 30 votes, and is now back down at 5.6.

I needed the STOP NOW button pushed yesterday ;)

Alternately, could everyone please not bother to vote on my entry any longer (and we'll ignore that nobody knows what it is, but I will say it does NOT contain an image of a large pink london bus to help), unless you wish to vote 6 or above. Thank you.

Natator

My grace entry is at 4.2 now! I started a 3.4. I'm really happy. Maybe if a few more hundred people vote, it'll get up to 4.6!
Woof! woof!

I've actually been going back to "grace" and have been uping the scores a little bit as I comment on them.

My infinite is my best so far and the score is reflecting that. Now the still life will be another shot. Not in the Grace but my daughter is and she's doing alright, holding just above a 4, her first time, she's happy. And she did her still life tonight, completely by herself, set it up, shot it and then I just showed her where the buttons were to do the post editing. Mine on the other hand, I've changed my entry twice so far ;)

As for Halloween, still working on it

Glad to hear your best shot so far is scoring well for you :)

I have what I consider to be my best about to go into Still Life. Annoyingly (though I am in full support of the rules) the spot editing I have done for the DPC Prints version greatly improves it, so maybe I am basing my thoughts on the photo on that.

Who is your daughter Neuferland?

If she starts doing better than you you may have to sabotage her entries. If she is borrowing your camera then a little vaseline on the lens should do it ;) Then mom can shoot it again and show her how it should be done (vaseline quietly removed naturally ;)

My daughter is Einstien123, she had drawn the picture of Einstein on her chalkboard and shot it for the Science Entry but then I had to reccommend it for a DQ because I didn't read the rules correctly.

She's only 11, I know the thing said 13 when you signed up but I was right there and I'm watching what she does and I have no problem with her seeing some of the nudes here either because they are so tastefully done.

And I hope she does get better than me, she could really use the ego boost. This is one thing she has always been interested in doing, she has a tendency to lose interest after a week or two but this is keeping her attention so when I move to a better camera she will get mine for herself and won't have to share anymore ;)

You should sign her up for free web space/portfolio somewhere and have her put her pictures on the web that she can share with family and friends. It would help keep her interest up if she can show off her pictures.

could somebody new please go and vote on the halloween challenge? I've been sitting at 129 votes for almost 2 days. feel free to vote generously, particularly for any image that you think might be mine, since my score has dropped by more than a half a point on sunday.

Thank you. You may now resume your regular pattern of behaviour for this time of day.

Yes, I think a stop button would be nice!

My Grace entry finally got to the lofty heights of 4.45 and is now bumping along in the mid 4.44's

Just wish more folk had left comments - only 2 out of 228 votes.

C'est la vie

PS Someone just gave me an 8 - weh heh! > 4.46 now

I would have liked to stop the Halloween voting after about 5 hours. If you take a look at this thread you will understand what I am talking about. //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=52401

I had over a 6.0 with FORTY votes and it is really upsetting to know it hung that high that long but now it is just below a 5.6

I would have stopped it after the first vote. 7. It's been slowly going down since then. I can't really complain about my score, but I definitely would have pushed the button after vote 1.

Must stop clicking the update stats.

The very next vote was a 2.

I am certainly looking forward to seeing the spread of votes I received the average is lower than my other challenge entries and I know that how people vote is open to great interpretation and range of views (mine included) but I wonder how many gave me lower than 3?

Think I will post my picture "here" later to get some more feedback - I have already asked for a Critique.

:~)

Figure this one out...I had 124 votes since this morning with an average score of 5.516. I clicked on "update and my score went to 5.5 with 124 votes still showing. What gives?

Someone went back and changed their vote.

Deannda
Wasn't me, if I change my vote, it ALWAYS goes up! :)

One of those 124 voters took another look at your entry and knocked it down a notch. Tough break.

Good luck. I haven't gotten a peep out of the critique club in months (and, at that, I only on two out of over a dozen I requested critiques on - thanks Inspzil and Mavrik!). Don't get me started....

I'll try and remember to check back and give your shot an extra look at the end...

edit to add my own "waaaaaa"...
Wow, some gumpy voters on this morning? Lots of >4 votes dragging my 6+ grace shot down really quick in the last hour...

Congrats on being such a progressive parent! I think kids need exposure to all kinds of images (like you'd find on here) at that age. That's really cool...

Just don't take her bar hopping just let. ;) Wait another year or two....

I am inclined to agree with an earlier comment by Natator. I've entered three challenges so far, and the scores get progressively lower, each time I enter. I should have quit while I was ahead, on submission number one.

I second the motion for the "STOP" button.

For members under age 13, you are supposed to print, fill out, and mail in the adapted version of the following waiver:

Here's the text of the waiver for you to adapt. Send a note to the admins (Help>Contact) to get the address to mail/fax a printed copy.

"I authorize my daughter/son, _____________, to participate on the web site //www.dpchallenge.com.

I am agreeing to the Terms of Use (found at //www.dpchallenge.com/terms.php) for her/him, since she/he is underage.

I will be held liable for any actions that she/he takes on the web site."

I just had this thought. What if they allowed us to cancel out all but the top 20% of our votes...We already know we have to vote on a minimum of 20% for the vote to count but could always change it to we as the photographer opt for only the top 20% of the voting to count.

I want that stop button right now~ a 8.0 with one vote...makes my night and yes I am afraid to click on the update now button. I like the 8.0 so much that I took a screen shot of it!
