Except for the obvious focal length difference and the roughly $100 price difference, could someone tell me which one would be a better choice of telephoto lens. Price is not the issue here - I just want a decent lens. They both zoom out to 300mm - I just don't know if or why the 75mm or 100mm would be the better starting point.

Canon EF 100-300 mm f/4.5-5.6 USM Telephoto Zoom Lens

Canon EF 75-300 mm f/4-5.6 III USM Telephoto Zoom Lens

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I had the 100-300 for a long time and it was a fantastic lens. Traveled around the world with me in all kinds of weather and survived a handful of drops. It was as sharp as I could have hoped for when I used it right.
