I have Windows XP and Firefox (v 2.0).
Up until a few days ago, everything was working fine. Quite suddenly (with no changes that I can think of) and in the middle of a DPC session, my top toolbar on DPC disappeared - or rather the blue bar is still there, but no links (e.g. my home, challenges, community etc). It still works fine when I switch to I.E. which I don't want to do.
DPC seems to be my only problem, I haven't noticed anything else going wrong with firefox.
I have tried the following remedies:
1) restart firefox/DPC
2) restart computer
3) scan for virus and spyware
4) uninstall firefox/reboot computer/download and install firefox
5) wait and hope for it to magically fix itself.
So far, no good :-(
What else can I try? Hopefully nobody will suggest rebuilding the computer *sigh*

| I'm not sure that it's a problem with Firefox. I'm using the same setup and have had no issues. |

I was having problems today on my XP machine and Firefox at work. I have a link to the update button in my toolbar that I use as a quick link to the site. DPC wouldn't load from that button, but would load fine if I just went to dpchallenge.com instead. However, often pages would load only partially, several thumbs and little icons like the forum "recent message" errors would not load. Weird stuff.
I took it as a sign that I should get back to work and stop surfing the site. |

It sounds to me like either you disabled JavaScript, or more likely, that your cache is corrupted.
First, try a forced refresh (Ctrl-F5) to see if that fixes it. If not, you'll need to clear your cache. To do that:
Go to the Tools menu
Select Options
Click the Privacy icon
Click the Clear Now... button
Uncheck everything except "Cache"
Click "Clear Private Data Now"
To check if JavaScript is enabled (still under Tools/Options):
Click the Content icon
Check the box for Enable JavaScript

Oh wow, so simple!!!! That fixed it right away.
I thought hitting the refresh button did the same thing.
Whoooooot, thanks Terry!
Edited to add a thank you for everyone else's input, too.

No problem!
Refresh is the same as hitting F5, but not the same as hitting Ctrl-F5. A normal refresh will use the copy of the content stored in your cache as long as the version on the remote site is not newer. Ctrl-F5 tells your browser to do a fresh download of all the content on the page, even if some or all of it is already cached.
It sounds like your cached copy of the menu code was corrupted.

Now comes the hard part - remembering it for future reference :-)
Your very good explanation will at least help me remember that I did SOMETHING easy to fix it. |
