I bought my hubby a camera as he has a keen eye for good photos but i cant put it down. I get great still shots, even had a few printed on canvas for friends (pot luck coz i know nothing about the settings) but recently a friend asked me to take some pictures of her new born and hubby. The pictures were gorgeous but all but one had a blur because she obv moved a lot. Someone said something about shutter speed? Basically what settings should i use for portrait stuff and what settings should i use for scenery? I hope someone has the time to give me the abc or refer me to a good website? :o) thanks |

Hey,
As I am also still learning, best advice from me is to check out the tutorials on the site. They really do help a lot. You should get your answer there.

what camera are do you use? cameras with semi-manual controls will allow you to set the shutter speed of your choice. a faster shutter speed will freeze motion, so even if the subject is a flying bird, its wings will froze in mid-air. Shutter speed is usually marked with an S on the camera's controls.
To jan_vdw, try the shutter-priority mode on your S9500. It is the one marked S. Then use the scroll wheel to change the shutter speed.
hope this helps. |
