Being a Canon bod have never seen a .nef file (Nokin), a guy at work has just asked if CS2 can convert .nef files? I'd like to look reasonably intelligent.

Yes. But depending on how new the camera you/he may need to download the latest RAW plugin from Adobe's website.

It is supported as of Camera Raw 3.6 (link), which is the latest.

Just to allow you to look even more reasonably intelligent, the newer Camera Raw plug-ins only work in Photoshop CS2. I believe it was Camera Raw 2.4 (link) that is the latest Photoshop CS can use. So any camera newer than those listed with it can not work with Adobe's Camera RAW. Although the camera makers often include their own plug-ins.
