Just thought I'd brag a bit about this photo:
I worked on the Presidential Protection Unit for about three years as a paramedic to Mr. Mandela. This was from late 1995 to May 1999. It was great to be able to see him every day and experience first hand just how wonderful a person he really is. The job had many ups and downs and lots of travel, but it was a great experience that I don't think I would trade for anything in the world.
The photo was taken during a lunch he invited his body guards and medical staff to at the official Presidential Residence in Pretoria.
Well, that is my story, short and sweet. Thanks for listening.

Yeah, Madiba has had an account on here for ages. But after that Nobel Peace Prize, the blue ribbons just didn't have the same appeal for him, so he doesn't enter contests anymore...

I just have to get on the bandwagon, and brag too.
Mandela was once my patient.......while I was working in the radiology dept at 1 Mil hospital in Pretoria.
I spent about an hour chatting to him, and he gave me his autograph, which I still have, with copies of his x rays. He was dignified and funny. I remember him asking if the calcification of his bones was due to the milk he had in the morning with his rice crispies!
