Hi, I have a sony dsc f717 with a 58mm thread. While I was at my neighbors, I came across and old old SLR camera. He had some 52mm macro lenses. I was wondering if the quality of the photos I take would be affected if I use a 58-52mm step down ring to use these lenses. The lenses are in great condition. Do you reccommend that I just go out and buy 58mm macro lenses? I would really appreciate a response. |

It is possible that you would see some "vignetting", which is darkening of the corners of the frame. This would be more apparent at maximum aperture (F2 to F2.4 for the 717)and full wide zoom; you would be unlikely to use the two conditions together with the macro lens atached.
I actully don't think you'll have a problem, because the front glass on the 717 is quite a bit smaller than the threads. Since a step-down ring is cheap, I think it's worth a try.
You could affix it temporarily to check out the results as well.
