Coming from the other thread, I just can't fathom a tally based on only top 5 finishers being comprehensive of your annual peformance. So I tried to develop my own metric.
The little system I worked out has the advantage of counting percentile ranks--taking into account challenge size. It includes more of your top finishers as well, not just top 5. And finally, it includes a little "bonus" for having a high percentage of your entries finish in the top 20%.
It's not a perfect system, but I'd be interested to see how it works out on a number of varied DPC performers.
Here's how to compute it.
Enter Count of your challenge ranking 95-100%:
Enter Count of your challenge ranking 90- 94%:
Enter Count of your challenge ranking 85- 89%:
Enter Count of your challenge ranking 80- 84%:
and as a bonus hit rate, calculate the whole number percentage of your entries in the above:
Then we need to apply a score. I chose logarithmic values 8, 4, 2, 1, and .1 for the percent success bonus (last line).
So, for example, here's a calculation of a score (mine):
Enter Count of your challenge ranking 95-100%: 10
Enter Count of your challenge ranking 90- 94%: 2
Enter Count of your challenge ranking 85- 89%: 2
Enter Count of your challenge ranking 80- 84%: 0
and as a bonus hit rate, calculate the whole number percentage of your entries in the above: 14 of 23 entries = 61 percent
10*8 = 80
2*4 = 8
2*2 = 4
0*1 = 0
61*.1 = 6.1
-----
Score 98.1
It's a bit more work than just looking at top 5, but applies to more people, and should be a better measure of performance, since top 5 is so "exclusive".
So that's my score. Anyone else want to try? If enough people do it, I will create a list showing how you rank. I don't have time, but if someone thew together a web page to calculate this it would be nice. (By the way, you can get a spreadsheet of your scores, and a chart, here //www.myfoobar.com/DPC/
