Hihi.. well the thing is my sister is going to the USA next month and offerd to buy a lens for me wile shes out there (since they cost 10 times more here). Now the problem is, I have no knowlege what so ever on lenses! I'm such an idiot :P So, now we come to your part :) I need someone to tell me what lens would be a good start, something maybe that can both help me in landscape and in portrait shooting... and yeah nothing to expensive :)

Ok do you think your op to it..
Just tell me if you think you know anygood lense..

e.s. maybe i sould have her get me a flash.. since im always geting them lighting comments.. :P Any views on that??

what is your total budget in USD? Recommendations will mostly depend on that ...

I don't know what your budget is but the 50 mm 1.8 prime is a good lens for around 70 usd. With the Rebel's crop factor its focal length is 70 mm which isn't too bad for portraits. Not as flattering as a longer focal length though.

Is it bad that I don't want you to get anything so I can say there's at least one Icelander that I have better scores than?

I'm an awful person, somebody slap me.

what do you like to shoot? wildlife, landscape, people...??

all of the above?

oh, and budget, yes.

I can't imagine shooting in Iceland without my 10-22mm ultra-wise. So that would be MY recommendation. But that's what I tell everyone :-)

the Canon 28-105 F3.5 is a good general purpose starter lens for around $250CND. It's pretty popular!

If you get the 50mm suggested above you're stuck with one focal length. If you get the wide angle that bear_music suggested than you're stuck with only a wide angle. The 28-105 at least has a range.

That must be my problem. None of my lenses are the ultra-wise version. :/

Mine are all pretty freaking stupid, too, it seems.

Check out the //www.bhphotovideo.com

There are a lot of lenses in your price range, but I htink you need two: a wide lens for landscapes and a portrait lens.

The 50 f/1.8 should be good for portraits on an XT, and its only $70

I second the 50mm f/1.8 ... fantastic lens for the price ... (about $70 USD)

I have the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8and it hasn't come off of my camera since I got it! Here's the DPC link for that lens ... about $370 USD ...

If you're considering a flash ... I just bought the Sigma EF-500 ... actually expecting it at my door tomorrow ... it was $150 USD

Another good lens choice is the Sigma 70-300 APO Macro ... for about $200 USD ...

You can get all of the things I listed for right around $800 USD ...
