I just picked up a bunch of studio stuff and this is first first time with alot of these things so please be gentle with me.
I picked up this Monolight kit from BH Monolight
My *ist Ds does not have a pc sync output. So I knew I had to atleast have a hotshoe pc sync output for the pc sync cord. I picked up a cheapy one when I ordered everything. I just got everything lastnight and I wanted to ensure that everything was indeed working. I put the hotshoe adpater on my camera and put the cord to one of the monolights. Turned eveything on.....and shot a few shots. The monolight didn't do anything. I checked all of the settings....nada. I pressed the test button and it flashed without a problem. Witht he hotshoe on I popped open my on camera flash. The monolight flash when I preflashed which is what it is supposed to do (I think). For what ever reason I can't get just the hotshoe adpater to monolight to work. So looking back at BH I was looking for other triggers and ran into this infrared trigger. And some other ones as well morris trigger.
My question is this.....could my hotshoe adpater just be faulty? Have some weird settings issue? need somethign special for a pentax * ist series? See if these infrared remotes work with the built in infrared recivers? I am open to all suggestions or tips anyone can offer. I thought about getting pocket wizard but just too expensive for how I will be using this.

Well I did manage to get the hotshoe adpater to work. It seems the pc sync cord male connection wasn't making good contact. I jiggled and wiggled it and I was finally able to get the monolight to fire correctly. Atleast that is out of the way. But I already hate the cords....as I knew I would.

| Not 100% sure. But the strobe has an optical slave that you say your on camera flash will trigger. So I would look for a switch to turn it off, maybe it is bypassing the sync connectior. |
