Your 6.5 score is what 95% of the people in this challenge can only dream of. Your attitude in pulling scores down, hurts others, who will in turn start to vote angry..and so the result will be a generally unhappy challenge.

Maybe this time round your picture is just really not that good? But at 6.5 it seems to be making it to the top ten page.

I am busy following Puckzzz's example and am trying to write constructive comments on as many pictures I've rated 4 and below....maybe with all your experience and greater skill you could do the same to help those less fortunate in talent than yourself?

I'm a n00b and my first entry was in this challenge, so I'm learning how DPC works. It's really amazing and a little bit frightening all those reactions on this forum on their own scores and what they will do if their scores will not improve. Also I don't understand the frustration about receiving comments, some complaining they don't get comments at all. Others are not satisfied with the comments they got?(why don't the voters see I did this on purpose). For me comments are all valid if they are an honest opinion, good or bad, it's not up to me to question somebody else his/her taste. The photo stays the same, no comment can change that? but maybe you think about it with this piece of extra information..and so you're learning. I have got only one comment, so this tells me something: My entry is mediocre :not good enough to praise and not to bad to slam it down.

Nevertheless I give my comments to others? and they are my true opinions, even when the negative ones look to others somewhat harsh . And I can understand that the shot taker doesn't agree with my point of view.

I hope that DPC is not a site about flaming over what's good or not.. respect and honorable true comments is what I'm looking for..so I can grow into good photography.

Keep on keeping on ... is my opinion ...

Just be yourself as some other people are being themselves (frustrated teenagers and grumpy old people)

Point being ... your opinion is yours and you should not change it to "fit in" to any preconceived idea of proper as long as you are not rude IMO.

... and understand that you don't have to understand that the shot taker (photographer) doesn't agree with your point of view as most negative comments that I have gotten here I DO agree with after a second look at my photo in question.

One could argue you give a great deal more 1s,2s,3s & 4s though hence the lower average :-)

How does one find one's average score given out? ... I have scored many already even though I am new and think my average score doled out would be around 6 or 7. The photos here are so great!

... and when I score photos in a challenge ... I score ALL photos in that challenge ... even the ones that I have an entry in. To me ... an 8 or 9 or 10 is just that ... an image that moves and inspires me.

I don't think I have ever given a 1 or a 2. People do what they can.

I MUST say that a 4.6 average score given seems a bit trollish but that is only my opinion.

For me voting is something like this:

1 = Very bad.. there is something terrible wrong with the IQ.
2 and 3 = IQ > 70% but photo is totally NOT appealing.
4 = IQ OK but less appealling.
5 = Basic a technical good photo but nothing extra in it.
6 and 7 = Technical and in composition a good photo.
8 and 9 = Like a seven but with a bit of magic.
10 = WOW, i'm amazed this is something else.

Why a 2 and not a 3 (6 or 7) (8 or 9) this lies in subtle differences.

Can anybody tell me if this is a honest judging system because of my n00b status.
