I like the #2 shot. The perspective makes it jump out. Then again you run the risk of getting a bunch of comments about the lower left being blown out.

Yep, I really like #2 as well, but it got me to thinking of an extreme closeup of the wires and spikes (from the middle rail) holding it to the wood, with the rail running off into the distance. There's your perspective! (From a guy who has spent almost 17 years on submarines, where the farthest thing you can see is about 10 feet away. :)

Thanks Guys. I SHOULD have gone with my gut. It was my choice and they talked me out of it. Dang.

One of the most important things I have learned here is that other opinions don't matter as much as you may have been taught that they do. Go with what you like, and to heck with the opinions of the voters/family members! Nobody ever got ahead in this world by listening to the masses!

Amen. Thanks for the words of wisdom as well as the critique. They are both very much appreciated.

Yep, I learnt that a long time ago, but I rarely ever follow that advice.
But this time I did.
I really liked my shot:

No one else did.
Except for Posthumous (thanks dude).
But I liked it and I managed to put that above the low votes I was getting.
I've also done the same thing for the black and white portrait challenge and I'm getting the same results (except posthumous hasn't mentioned liking it yet :-))

Anyway, here are my outtakes:

I think I know that cemetery!?!

Magnolia Cemetery? Off of Market Street in Charleston?

edit: ok, way off Market street. . . Still, Charleston, right?

Yep, many years ago. I guess I need to go back, now that I have a camera. :)

Is it too late to go back and post a 'Highjacking Thread' notice? :)
I just realized that I have you as a favorite. PM me, and maybe we can get together sometime so you can teach me how to use all of the little buttons and knobs on this thing. :)

In the meantime, we return you to your thread, already in progress! :)

This is the one I would have entered, but I did not think to try it in black and white until after the challenge started, so I entered Centered composition instead. Anyway, I am not sure if this would have scored as well as my gull, but I love this fence image now that I have cropped a lot of it and made it black and white.

Hi Jeanne, for what it's worth I thought your entry was best of the three. I think all three were a bit soft and lacked some contrast. The point of view was interesting on the entry and the second one, but the second seemed somewhat blown out in the corner. ON your entry you might have had better luck if you were in a bit tighter and used the fence as more of a frame for the other fence.

I shouldn't talk tho, I did pretty badly myself..

I tried to tell the story of this fence protecting the graveyard from the big, advancing corn field, but didn't seem to come across. Oh well, live and learn, :-)

THANKS Jack.
I just loved that corner of the fence. We have a great abundance of fences around this area, however, the weather doesn't seem to cooperate lately. I'd like some of that white stuff ... IMO it's way past time.
