Save up, get it fixed and keep it as a backup. I did that with my 300d and I've actually had an assistant use it a time or two.

It was still under warranty, so, $0. And the store I bought it from even shipped it for me.

You have a whacked-out/worn out shutter Leroy.
Canon's repair on that runs between $175-225, and kinda' think it's hardly worth the cost, as used ones run less than twice that. Had it been a 20D, it would be different.

Yeah and new XTs don't run much more than twice that much.... ordered an XT from B&H for like $525. Hardly worth sinking $200 in a Rebel.

if it was cheap enough id suggest getting it repaired and using it for backup as suggested or the IR thing, either would be cool. Ebay works good too, use that $$ towards some new glass :D
