Now I am using the Adobe Bridge but I think it's way too heavy for my lap-top. Which software would you suggest with similar characteristics? I want to be able sort my images and also convert from RAW if that's the case.

Do you like the bundled software that comes with the canon cameras? I haven't tried it!!

Thanks ;)

I use DPP (canon's software) for viewing and sorting, batch processing and file naming, then open the selected/renamed files in PS and tweak as needed. But there are a zillion workflow opinions, this one just happens to work for me until I can buy something better.

Thank you Cindi, have you used bridge and still prefer DPP? I have it but never got to install it, I have some disk-space problems with my lap-top. Maybe I will give it a try.

I use C1Pro for RAW preview and conversion then Adobe Photoshop for editing.

no one ever gives love to photo mechanic.

it moves faster than any other workflow program. I dig it for sure.
Photo mechanic for culling down the edits, pscs2 for toning.

Yeah, I don't like Bridge... its clunky to me. I do, however, like Adobe Lightroom (still in beta and free), but I don't use it as often because I like DPP better.

Well on my pc I take the RAW pics off the card to a file like from_cam then use Adobe DNG converter and convert rename and save to an other foler named just DNG / a sub folder named for what I am working on. Backup the RAW files to cd/dvd. Then I use bridege to look at my DNG's pick the ones I want to keep open them in Adobe camera RAW save them to a working folder as PSD photoshop files. Then again in bridge take a look at the woking folder edit in photoshop and then save to a processed folder. I keep all the files in the DNG, PSD and working folders for about a month and then back them up to cd/dvd as well as the processed ones and then delete them off my drive.

If I have to work off my laptop (an old celeron 1gig with only 300 megs of ram) I use gimp for windows and UFRaw for windows. I don't do that much on the laptop just some fast processing to make sure the files I am shooting are good for working with when I get home.

I use ACDSee from ACD Systems to manage my images. It is very fast at displaying, resizing, moving, sorting, tagging, etc.

Note that ACDSee will stamp your jpegs with its name in the Software field of your EXIF data if you let it copy the files to your hard drive, which may be a concern for you here on DPChallenge where you want to have an original (untouched) jpeg for validation. I shoot only raw, however, and so this is not a concern because ACDSee doesn't touch raw files. ETA: However, it does display them.

Cindi, is there anyway when viewing one photo to cycle through the images?
