It is the finished article that makes the difference. You have great shots in your portfolio, maybe you live in a location that is photogenic, but it is what you can capture with your camera.

I think my mind is made up.

It is going to be a K100D

Congratulations. Be easy on us, Steve.

dmadden and I have a great friendly competition going on with the K100D. :-) He keeps me on my toes. I feel if I slack-off or miss any challenges, he will step in and take control. :-(

Control of nothing he has, assimilated les have been. Know it not yet he does'nt.

Yoda fan, you are, yes, hmm? Herh herh herh.

The 28-135mm IS USM has been sold via ebay. The 30D is on there and once it hits its right price will go to a new, and happy owner. Then, I will be able to get the K100D with 18-55mm lens, and hopefully if my wife doesn't spot some new clothes when out shopping, I will also get the 50-200mm. There is a remote possibility that the Sigma 50mm Macro could also find a way into my camera bag.

But that is all in the future, first the 30D has to sell for the right price.

The latest issue of Popular Photography pits all the 10 MP cameras against each other.

Edit: The article is not up on the website. It's in the February issue.

Sorry to revive this thread. Mail Order company has sent the replacement for the K110D they sent in error. Yep, you guessed, they sent another K110D.

Now I have a problem, a month without a camera, do I send the K110D back and wait to see if they get it right a third time, or do I keep the K110D, miss out on anti-shake sensor? They are the same camera, but K110D has no anti-shake.

Any ideas? I want to get out shooting. Thanks.

Steve

Wait for the K100D. The anti-shake is worth it. Call them up and scream bloody hell, and make them overnight the new one to you. If you can switch retailers, get a refund and buy it somewhere else ... tho that might ace you out of your $50 rebate. I got mine here in about a week.

You will like the anti-shake. So, since this is the second mistake on the shipper, send it back overnight on their dime, then insist that they send the K100D overnight as well.

Who did you buy yours through?

Mail order catalogue, Grattans. Money is short at the moment and I can get it buy now, pay 2008. Means I would have had some left for a couple of lenses. Although this is slipping away.

I have mailed them for an answer. If no joy, I will buy from WarehouseExpress online and have to use just the kit lens.

You might want to hold on that 50-200. I suggest you look at the Sigma 18-125 or 18-200 instead. I tried that lens in B&H, and the 50-200 front rotates when focusing; not a good thing, and I was not impressed with it.

Further developments. Bought the K100D from local camera shop. Handles nicely, will soon get serious with it...well, might take a few shots with it before entering challenges.

Thought about getting some older manual lens to play with, picked up a nice little 70-140mm f3.8 zoom only to find the camera will not recognise K mounts without an adapter. So, buying older lenses, I need to be looking for KA mounts, the ones with the Red A on the aperture ring, apparently without this the camera cannot find the lens.

Hope this helps anyone else who has this camera and was thinking along the same lines as me. There are loads of KA mount lenses around, so I will be trawling for a few.

You can use K mount lenses on the camera, you just have to shoot in full manual mode, since it doesn't have the ability to automatically stop down the lens when the shutter is pressed. I usually guess at the exposure (or use the exposure from metering through one of my other lenses) first, then adjust on the fly from there.

You also might want to disable the autofocus, since it will still hunt for a focus before letting you press the shutter, even though you have to focus manually yourself. When that happens you press the shutter and nothing happens. Very frustating. There is a setting in the custom menus that you need to switch from the default settings in order to use non-A K-mount lenses with the AF on (which as far as I can tell just verifies the center of the image is in focus). After you enable that feature, the camera then prompts you to enter the focal length after you put a K-mount lens on, and then you're good to go. I'm at work right now, so can't look it up for you, but will check later when I get home if someone else doesn't pipe in first.

Congrats on the new camera ... looking forward to seeing what you capture with it!

Thanks, will await your reply! All I get is the number of frames and a flashing F, even in manual focus and manual mode.

Try this link on Shutterbug. The custom setting changes you need to make are about halfway down the page. I misspoke in my prior post ... entering the focal length enables the anti-shake (not the autofocus).

Also -- check pages 107 and 188 of your manual (just checked it on-line) ... you need to change the Aperture Ring setting to Permitted from Prohibited (the default).

(Edited to add refs to manual pages)

Thanks, will try that tomorrow. Late here, beer and cameras don't mix. :) Appreciate the info!

Good tip EstimatedEyes, checked manual, always a useful thing to do and yep, camera will work with 'K' mount lenses. Now have to try this with M42 lenses once I get my adapter. Thanks...and that will teach me to read the manual instead of assuming I know it all straight away!! :))
