I have an oldie rangefinder (all mechanical). The focus ring is VERY VERY hard to move but it does move. What you think I can spray/rub into the gaps to get it moving?? Twas thinking about the WD40 deal but not sure if I want to go there on a camera as it would work it's way into the film mechanism - suggestions???

| well depending on whether you really care or are just playing around, you can usually get a camera professionally cleaned for around $100 or so. |

Sounds like some lubricant previously used has gummed up. It really needs to be removed, and a proper lubricant provided. You've surmised that WD40 or similar will probably free it up, and I think you're corret that it would also contaminate the internals. Not recommended.
It probably needs to be dissassembled, cleaned, and relubricated with a non-migrating lubricant. |

Thanks for confirming what I kinda figured :-) It's my fathers camera and it's not been used for decades (was the type to do WD40 on everything, so it's prob already had a dose :-). I will get a quote for a strip cleaning and prob get it done for sentimental reasons as it would be nice to have it working. I am going to run some film thru it to see if everything is working - appears to be fine and would focus great IF the subject was 3 meters away :-)
