I know this has been discussed but was there a final word about a photo that was never in a challenge but was seen and talked about already?

I have the same question. Can I submit a picture I have already uploaded and displayed on DPC? If so, do I need to take it off my regular profile and resubmit it as the Best of 2006 Challenge Entry?

The consensus for Best of '05 was "As long as it wasn't in a challenge and if its in your portfolio, you hide it."

My two cents-
I think such photos should be allowed. Anyone who is active in the forums shares their favorite photos. It wouldn't be much fun if we couldn't share photos throughout the year in case we want to save it for the Best Of challenge....LOL

I agree with Cindy, just hide the picture for now.

Are allowed and is personal taste and couth whether or not you want to enter it.

I wouldn't enter an image that had garnered any notoriety, myself. But most posted images sort of sink back into negligibility over time. Many times in "Best Of" challenges I have recognized an image, but rarely could I remember who made that image. So I wouldn't worry about it...

I just hid my entry.

I know you'll all vote highly for it even though it managed to pick up 340 favorites and 1500 comments.

It would be strange if you haven't shared your best photo already. Be it at dpc, any of the other popular critique and gallery sites, newspapers, magazines, books, etc. To not use a photo anywhere else for a year just for DPC is a bit too much to ask.
This challenge is a bit different from all the others imho.

Yep - don't worry about whether you've posted it here before. I remember not entering the best of 2004 challenge on the basis that my favourite shot of the year already had 20 odd favourites - but a lot of people have submitted quite recognisable shots in the past.

As Cindi noted, it is probably wise to hide the shot so that folks who recognise an image but can't quite place it aren't able to snoop out its origin.

Has anybody noticed when you go to upload your best of 2006 shot you need to check the box that says:

"Yes, this photograph was taken with a digital camera on or between Jan 5 2007 and Jan 11 2007."

Just ignore that for now :)

Of course. I just lied. Like on all my entries. Is that bad?

Is everyone else like me, in that your "Best of 2006" entry really isn't your best of 2006? I've already entered most of my bests. I'll be lucky if I enter my 5th or 6th best.

Maybe they should call it "Best of the Rest of 2006"?

Yes, I'm like that. I think I already entered my best shots in the free studies. I don't have a "wow" photo this year like I had last year. I will enter the best of 2006 challenge but I bet it doesn't hit 6.
