Is this what you are looking for?

Yes. How did you do it? Not to mention, that was quick.

i stroked each image with a 2 pixel black border.
I increased the canvas size on each one by 100 pixels (height and width) excpet for the center image which was width only.
Paint bucketed the increased canvas white.
Took the center image and increased the hieght by 1400 pixels so top and bottom would fit the other images.
Copied and pasted the other 2 images into my center image and moved them into place.
Flattened layers and stroked another 2 pixel border.

THere is probably some easier way to do this but this worked for me.

The main problem i'd have with that is what size to make the images and also the final image, especially with regards to proportions and printing out.

I thought that might be an issue too but when I did this one and had it printed out at DPC prints the extra white added to make the image a size that I could frame easily really wasnt an issue. Just dont make the final stroke on the outer image and then you can print it out whatever size you need to frame it. The extra white space wont be a problem IMO.

My first try.
Perhaps it would look better in the vertical plane.

This would make a good and very useful tutorial.
