I am sick of listening to the endless ads on the few radio stations I can stomach, and I'm starting to consider satellite radio.
Sadly, though, I know VERY little about it.

I'd like something that is portable (work, car, home) and likely to actually work in my "office" (a window-less hole in the wall, ground floor, middle of a big building).

Please share your wisdom with me.

Thanks

Sounds like you need an iPod. Load it with a thousand of your favorite songs and it'll take at least 50 hours of listening to hear a repeat. Bonus: No ads. ;-)

Samsung NeXus 25

I would recommend this one because your office has no sky access, which is absolutely necessary for satellite radio. If the antenna can't see the satellite, then you get nothing. This particular receiver also doubles as an MP3 player, so when you're stuck without reception you can always switch over to the songs you've got stored. It's a neat little gadget and I want one rather badly.

P.S. I do have XM Radio currently, and I absolutely adore it.

For sure xm satelite radio has it share of ads too....Some of the station are ad free. But to me it seem no many are ads free. Have my car with a direct xm set up on car stereo...But I also have a portable I could set up to any car, house, jobsite if needed..This one mostly was using in my truck when I was driving over the road. But I been driving local lately so I am not using the portable.Do to the fact that Iam not in the same truck everyday..This is the portable on I have.Portable
That come with a car kit.If interested Iam not usung mine.Willing to sale.I'll throw in the home kit also too.

David, I do have an mp3 player, but I don't have THAT much music - getting sick of that, too. I need some more variety.

Rebecca, thanks - that makes a lot of sense. I'm beginning to understand the principles now. I have bookmarked that link, thank you.

Rosco, thanks for the offer, but I think I need something like Rebecca suggested, so I can listen to it at work, too, where I'm locked away in my little box.

I wonder how Sirius compares to XM ..... I like the idea of the playboy station on Sirius and can't find it on XM ;-)

Currently I have both XM and Sirius, I've had XM for a year and am just going through the switch to Sirius. Both work really well and are nice and portable with the systems I have used. I really like the fact that I can stream either on the internet and have it right on my PC. Both have a trial period you can do a 3 day trial on the web to see what they have. I suggest that. Remember though you cant stream every channel just certain ones. I take my XM Roady2 in any vehicle and it takes about 2 minutes to take it out and put it in any car/truck I own. The same with my Sirius system. You cant go wrong with either in my opinion. XM does seem to have the better lower line recievers for sound quality. But once you spend some money both are great. So why did I switch? Nascar moved to Sirius so I moved thats the only reason.

For when you're sitting at work (assuming you have access to the internet): Pandora Internet Radio

Some good info there, Matt, thank you! I'll be sure to do the trials over the weekend so I can make the most of it.

David, I have been working at that place for nearly THREE months now, but they still haven't hooked my clunky, old computer up to the internet! Once they do, I'm not even sure if their firewall would let me make use of something like that, but I'll look into it - that Pandora looks like an interesting option. Thanks again.
