I say 85 f/1.8
I find the 50 terrible for portraits, especially headshots and half body. It is ok for full body stuff. Also when you walk around with it it is always to short or too long, not nice to work with at all. Sure the quality of the 50 is great and there are a zillion great examples, but IMHO an 85 is a lot better for that kind of stuff on a 1.6 crop camera.

I wish I had bought the 85 instead of the 50.

About 50mm Canon lenses. Petteri Sulonen, a guy with good insights in photography gear and the art itself, compared the 50 f/1.8 Mk1 vs the 50 f/1.4. The Mk1 is not available anymore, so read on until they compare it to the Mk2 you would get if you order a 50 f/1.8 nowadays. Keep that in mind, because the Mk1 beats the Mk2.

I'd go for the f/1.4, but that's me.
