I am kind of new here and have a few questions that the challenge doesn't answer for me.
Does the free study mean I can choose my own subject as opposed to the more specific challenge.
Can the photo be taken any time or are there specific dates like the other challenges?

Yes you can choose your own subject and the shot must be taken during the month of January 1/1 - 1/31
Submission Deadline: Wednesday, January 31st, 2007 (began Jan. 1st 2007)
