I've seen a lot of comments about some low scoring. Suggestion: Instead of taking the average vote, i think it would be feasable to trim the lower part (and the higher maybe) of the results curve for a photo. Example: 5% of the voters on low (and hi) side are rejected. It would kind of normalize scores and get rid of those "nonsense" haters or lovers... |

taking 5% off each end would still keep the average pretty much the same

I agree with Ben; I've never found evidence of any significant "troll" voting. I know it seems strange that, for exaample, a photo getting a 6.0 average can still get a couple 1s & 2s, but the statistics confirm that this is often the expected result.
Since the results tend to be very much normally distributed, chopping both ends would not change things very much at all.

Face it folks, people give low votes because they don't like photos. And they give high votes when they do like your photos. And this is a valid procedure even when they don't/can't articulate why, and therefore don't leave a comment. Get used to it. Votes from the people you call "those "nonsense" haters or lovers..." count just as much as yours and mine.

What would really average things out is not counting the 1's in te final score. :)
Sounds funny.
But it could discard all those:
- I think you cheated but am too much a coward to ask for a DQ and give you a 10 (the photo is great), so that's a 1 for you.
- I am so blind that I don't see you meeting the challenge altough your photo is great.
- I give all the great photo's a 1, so that I can get on top.
- I give this a 1, because it must be made with a dSLR and using a dSLR is kind of cheating against me with my 1mp camera.
- This guy seems to know his post-processing. Photoshop is very expensive and for pro's. I'll deduct 9 points for to keep things fair.
- In my country a 1 means great, 10 means it sucks. Stupid DPC just doesn't want to understand. Our people are know to be stubborn as hell.
Great idea eh? Where was that post about joining the site council.....
