Looking at the infinite challenge, very low numbers have entered. Puts me off a little as maybe only the good people (blast you Kiwi!!!!!!) have entered, and thus mine would crash and burn (ok, bear with me, I'm not bothered about that, I am building to my point ;)
Lets say I have a photo and stand alone it would get a 5 from everyone.
If it was then in a bunch of photos that were significantly better I think realistically you might find that score dropped. Alternately the reverse could be true.
I don't think anyone would do it deliberatly, I just think that if you see 25 great shots in a row, maybe each a 9 in their own right, you'd end up comparing the 9's and have a smattering of 10's, 9's, 8's etc, as you brain in effect puts them in an order of how much you like them. The result for the 5 would be it might become a 4.
I try not to vote that way, but I would imagine we are all unconsciously influenced that way.
Just a thought, from a comment I saw on another thread (forget who by, sorry).
What do others think?
(and this is not a negative thought, just a pondering of life, the universe and DPC).
Natator
P.S. The title of this thread does NOT refer to how good you think your relatives are. Mine score anywhere from a 10 to a -2563 ;)

You're absolutely right, of course. But against that, the number of 7.xxx in any one challenge (if any) is very variable, so that suggests your idea isn't completely true.
Anyway, there's the whole weekend to go before infinite is done - plenty of time for more entries. The fewer the better as far as I'm concerned :-)

Why do you do photography? Creativeness? Expression? Money? Or, what I think I hear you say, points at DPC? *grin* |

ya enters yer pics 'n' ya takes yer chances........
Stop spending so much time worrying about how the votes will come out and put the time into coming up with an entry that YOU think is good. |

I'm pretty sure this happens, even if subconsciously.
Within one of the last few challenges, the voting procedure presented me with 4 images in a row, all of which were variations of the same subject (dont ask me what it was, I cant remember exactly). This brought to the surface the undercurrent "oh god, not another statue/dog/whatever". However, it also biased me towards one particular shot, which was excellent, and the next 1 or 2 shots werent up to its standard, so probably scored lower than they would have if they had followed different shots.
I've forgotted where I was going with this... oh, that's right.... 42!
