How many dpi do I need to get a good print?
Thought I read someplace to keep it around 300dpi.

When should I crop if I took the photo in RAW?

Right now I go from RAW to Tiff, then crop.

Can I get a good 5x7 print yet if I have to go down to 250dpi?

not dpi, Pixel per inch.
When I make my 5x7 crop bigger or smaller, my tool bar (psp11) shows pixel per inch changing, it starts at 300 pixels per inch and if I pull the crop bigger the pixel per inch goes up, if I make the crop smaller the pixel count goes down..

Edited to add, I do not print them at home, but take them to wal-mart if that makes any difference.

Check this table of recommended print sizes in pixels -- 300 ppi at the final print size is great, 150 ppi at the final print size should be adequate.

Also check the tutorial section.

Great chart, not so sure I understand what 1.50:1 Aspect Prints means.

What would my prints fall under?

Glad to hear 150 ppi should be adequate.
The one I would like to crop the most I get it to the 5x7 and the info say's it's 1007x1409 and 201 ppi.

Do you think that would print ok?

Going to get some more printed to see for myself too, but if you say it should print ok I will feel better about it now. :)

A 1.5:1 ratio is the same as 3:2, like a 35mm frame. Print sizes in that aspect ratio would be 4x6, 6x9, 8x12, 12x18, 20x30, etc.

The one you listed (at about 200 ppi) should be OK.
