I just got back from going to get all the details wrapped up for my up and coming wedding shoot. It will be my first and I'm really nervous.
But since I got to check out the location and get some shots of the bride I am feeling much better about the shoot.

I got the news that we are out of the running and thats not totally unexpected. I had a ball and will continue to shoot as if we were going strong. I feel I have learned a lot and have been a contributor to helping the rest of the team improve as well.
Hopefully by WPL 5 we can be real contenders. Though I think we did a really good job for our first time around. Shall we stay together for the next one? I certainly hope we can!

Thanks, Colorcarnival, for the Great Lakes contest, Tate said he only enters contests for money. He luckily won, one big prize once, a roundtrip vacation and a dslr camera, shooting on the shores of Lake Erie. I agree prizes are better, but some fame is also good.

Sounds great! I also will continue shooting as strongly as before maybe
more at aiming for ribbon in specific categories. I've overcome some obstacles, like "Post-Processing" specifically for .jpg files, in areas of color correction and brightness. Last year when I first entered a shot taken on my birthday April 9th, with a Sony DSC-707, I got my highest score. I can feel it in the air, a higher score is coming soon.

I have a feeling, that when dpc takes over the WPL5, there may be some changes in rules/regulations, hopefully for the good. I now know how to "play the slots", getting into certain slots may be advantages. The slots did not get filled up as quickly as I thought after the New Years partying.

I would like to shoot more in team competition during the Spring/Summer/Fall, not just Winter season. In the winter it's not the same around the Great Lakes area, at least not my preferred season. We don't live in Iceland, Australia, or Ocean coast, but I travel more in Spring, Summer and Fall.

Okay, great shots definetely do exist *Everywhere*, the challenge is to find/crteate them in a timely manner.

OUCH!!!
ummm .... ? .... I don't believe they selected the winner at random ;P

BTW: DPC is not for money ... ;P yukyukyuk!

One more thing -- 3 letters .... WPL!

Congrats on your good luck tate. :D

Congratulations! Okay, you can give yourself a pat on the head Tate, for the talent part. It also requires luck, timing, or cheating for someone to win. Even the most talented need some timing and luck, or knowing someone.

I know you won that contest fairly. The luck part comes in that the judges gave you preference over some others. You had a great picture for the contest ( Sony sponsored contest), I was only quoting what you told me.

:)

Someone needs to stop me from entering pics at the very very last minute. I spent some time taking pics but only had time to load them on the computer. I did not look at them until 24 hours later which was about 15 minutes before the Light Source challenge. I hit the submit buttong and then the site went to rollover. Now I am looking at it going - why! why! The voters are scoring with the same thought in mind lol. Oh well - at least I can say I have a diverse portfolio.

What do you guys have pics in right now? I have one in portrait, the Langdon birthday challenge, and the dreaded light source.

Keep posting or something - you guys have all disappeared! lol

Michelle, I've hit rollover and missed out on entering LOL. I have entered Color Portrait, but missed the others because I got wickedly sick. I am hoping to get stuff in for the remaining challenges.

Tomorrow morning our tech guy will deliver a new camera to me. It's a Canon EOS Rebel XTi. He bought a lense to: 80 - 200 2.8 Fstop. While I did google it - I have no idea what impact it will have on my photography. I was very flattered when he said "I" was getting the camera instead of the building Principal because the administration loves the photos I take throughout the year. :)

MY CAMERA IS HERE...MY CAMERA IS HERE!
Love the feel of it - solid in my hands. Haven't figured out how to get the LCD screen to show for shooting, but that's better since I read (on DPC)using the view finder is much better, more authentic to what you're gonna get. There are a lot of buttons and most of them are not like the 828, but I can play with it all weekend.

The extra lense (Glass? as the say?) I wrote about - is HUGE (by my experience)and heavy! Tech guy will be using it for a while. I suspect it will be a few weeks before I get to use it.

I have a flash to go with it too - some nice filter features..a pull out filter that folds over on the window with a white card perpenticular to the window (window...the surface that flashes)-(to bounce light?). It also has a slave mode that doesn't operate on flash sensoring...but rather (forget what he said) radio signal?

I have both the Sony 828 and the Canon home for the weekend, so I can compare what I am used to and what I need to learn.

I'm in a state of torture tonight - I have to go out for dinner :(

Also...how many (...) can a person use to red flag ignorance - lol@ me

Congrats Deb!!! You're gonna love your new toy, even though it will be the focus of your thoughts while you are out to dinner tonight. for dslrs, the viewfinder is the only way to frame your shots, as the lcd is not an option (except for the extremely unique case of the canon 1d-mark iii). Post some of your shots when they are available! Send a chat request later tonight if you wanna go over some of the features (it's very similar to the 30d), however i'm sure you'll have more fun just playing around and figuring things out by accident :-)

Thanks Asim - - I'll look for you tonight around 10:00pm

strange, I posted yesterday about the school experience but its not here now.

To recap...

Michelle, I noticed that the later I submit my entry, the worst it is.

Deb, congrats on the new toy! So much more for you to learn. How fun is that? lol

Yesterday, was so tremendously stressfull. My husband called around lunch time that our kids high school was on lockdown. When I went down there to check on the kids, I couldn't get within a block of the school. It was surrounded by police and a helicopter was circling overhead. The parents started showing up in droves with various stages of panic. Noone knew what was going on. One group of parents were able to reach their kids by text messages. Some kids said they thought they heard gunshots. (luckily that turned out to be a false report) It took 3 hrs to hear what was actually happening in the school. It was so hard not knowing if my kids were hurt or killed inside. I was praying hard for their saftey and everyone else in the school.

Turns out that someone called the police from the cafeteria saying they seen someone with a gun. So they grabbed all the students and rushed them to the nearest room locked the doors and shut off all the lights. Some classes were hiding under their desks. The police searched and secured the gym first and then they went to each classroom and searched each person. They put them thru metal detectors and moved them to the gym. They did not announce what was going on so the students were left in the dark. They said they thought it was just another drill but started to panic when they noticed the teachers get panicy. My daughter passes out when she gets stressed so she was thinking of all the possibilities when 4 police men with rifles barged in and threw the lights on. She just seen the guns and about went limp.
It was difficult letting the kids go back to school today.
Thankfully, noone got hurt. Just a lot of mental trauma.
Which we will all survive!

The official word is that it was just a prank. Hopefully, That is all that it was, and not some kid testing the reaction times.

woah, t... that's a crazy story. i'm glad everyone is ok...

I ventured out to the Botanical Gardens yesterday and took some shots. It might be old age, but I shake a lot! I uploaded what I thought were the few better ones of 66 photos I took (see my profile). It was a very disappointing trip to the Gardens, generally this time of year it is grand to behold.

Today we went to Niagara Falls. I took over 70 shots this time, but its so gray and drab - plus how many pics of rushing water can one find interesting? LOL apparently I found it facinating. Had I been thinking, I would have scheduled the trip for later in the day when they light up the rapids (not sure if they light the Falls this time of year).

I had hopes of getting some really shots today, but it didn't happen...I got discouraged and spent $250+ at the Outlet Mall and took my friend to dinner LOL@me

Gonna keep plugging away though with learning for the next WPL - right now I have nothing for Pop Culture, but I'll get something for Tuesday's deadline.

Waaaah! I did it again, the midnight hour overtook me, so it happened to me, too. I didn't get my Pop-Culture picture in in time.
