First, congrats to all the new personal bests people are posting about. It's great to see, and especially in a free study! :)

Second, I'm thrilled. After dropping to 6.5, my score's on the way back up. Maybe I'll manage a personal best or 2nd best myself.

Funny thing is that free studies seem to be my strength. This will be 3 of my top 5 (and 4 of my top 6) in free studies.

I'm so excited to try and cling onto that 6!

Ouch.... well my score plummeted another .2 overnight.

For all those who are on the road to personal bests - congrats... I'm sorry I won't be following you! I've gone from my best ever score after 20 odd votes, down to something that'll struggle to make my personal top 5.

Whooh hooh!!! I broke a 6! Not sure if it will hold but it has been a slow steady climb this week. I would love to see this finish above a 6 but just pleased as punch to see it hit it at least once this week.

Mine almost got to 6, but turned around and is heading down...

Maybe a 90th percentile in a Free Study? I'll take it!

Is it just me, or are the votes really slow in coming this week? 20 votes in a day and a half?

And do you consider this a 2006 challenge or a 2007 challenge? Deadline for submission was 2006, but voting is in 2007. What's your call?

Oh Look!!! My score has barely changed in the last 50 votes! Would you people make up your minds?!!!!!!! LOL. Maybe the generous weekend voters will push me over the .3 mark. I do appreciate the very nice comments though. :-)

I just started voting on this challenge...good work Everyone!

I agree with you Larry, the votes are coming in sllloooowwwwwllyy. I have a fences entry with 21 more votes, and that voting is 2 days newer Free Study. Wierd. I remember the days when you'd hit 100 votes the day after voting started. There's a lot of challenges being voted on I guess.

The Free Study voting numbers suffered from the Fark/Digg traffic that slowed the site down. Not to mention that the Free Study is members only while Fences is an exclusive open. So Fences has more voters available to it and also didn't catch the brunt of the server overload.

Gutted.

I think it is about I gave this photography lark, a £1,000+ to start with to get a good camera + a good lens. Scores none above 5

Gonna take up knitting. Maybe a 30D+ up for sale soon. Interest has gone.

Bah. DPC has very specific tastes. For me, stuff that wins ribbons in the real world gets very mediocre scores here. It doesn't mean you're not a good photographer, just that your style of photography doesn't meet the specific tastes of a single website.

For instance, I have one photo in right now that my mother thinks is so fantastic that she begged for a framed 16x20 - something she never does. It's barely above a 6.

Then there's the blueberries. Everyone I know in real life thinks this is pretty much my best photo ever, and it even managed to get picked as a Kodak PotD. When I made my calendars this year, it was made clear to me by several people that under no uncertain terms was I to not include it. How did it score here? Again, barely above a 6.

Shoot and shoot and shoot, and shoot for you, not for us. :-)

You only need to work on a few things to improve that score Steve.

Click the little triangle on your profile so you see the thumbs of all your challenge entries. 9 out of 10 of your shots are nearly perfectly centered. For the next 5 challenges, focus on your subject and then move the camera to push it to the right or left. No matter how odd or "wrong" it feels...do it. Next, work on lighting. For the next five challenges you are not allowed to take a picture between 10:00AM and 2:00 PM (acutally right now it isn't as important because you aree so far north, the sun is always low). But also you are not allowed to use a flash.

If you do those two things (move the subject, no flash) and give it as hard a try as your other entries, I guarantee you will score a PB in the next 5 challenges.
