You do know there are plenty of people at DPC who've never hit 6, right? They'd be ecstatic about that score.

As for me, my personal best is slipping away one 5 at a time ...

Still very happy about the score, and I'm hopeful it'll climb after the typical first day drop. But also just as baffled about what will hit that magic button in most people.

it's not the score as much as what I thought it would score...

I thought I had a contender and after 2 votes and an 8.5 was tricked into thinking I was right. This will finish somewhere around 75th, never to be seen again.

Why you getting on Jason´s case for making this comment about his score? I suspect most people here at DPC are competing against themselves most of all and compare their current scores to their own averages.

I think most people here would not be happy about scoring below their averages.

Oh Look!!!! I got a very nice comment. I think my photo must be right next to one of the high scoring photos so the voters look at that one, and then arrive at mine....YIKES!!!

I really liked this photo too. Ah well, I'm still wearing my 18 hour claw and hanging on to the 6.xxxx

Tomorrow is yet another day...

You are very right, but at the same time it can be extremely grating to see someone feeling sorry for themselves over a score us lesser mortals would be all too happy to have. I've certainly been in that position. It's demoralizing to see someone say "Man, I'm only scoring a 6.5, this photo SUCKS!" when a 6.5 would blow my personal best out of the water. Sometimes I think that the usual flock of contenders should be a little more conscious of that. It's okay if they're bummed because it's apparently not up to their usual standard, but saying that a 6+ photo is bad sends the message that it's universally bad, not just personally so.

I'm not saying that Jason worded it as badly as that, but I can see where equating a 6.1111 with cluelessness probably isn't as well-said as it could have been.

FWIW, I'm barely clinging to a personal best right now:

That's so spot on! I am not disappointed so much that I have 4 images at the moment in the 5.8's but that I know I have done so much better. I am competing with myself to improve. I know so many people would love to have 5.7's and 5.8's, but for me, I want to do better than that. My average is 5.94 something and I want so desperately to get to 6. I want to increase my capabilities, so if I am frustrated, it is with myself.

karma, it's not a matter of the score as much as what I thought it would do. I have, at least personally, a fairly good record of guessing where a shot will end up. However, lately I've been quite wrong. I thought My Occupation score was going to be a 5.5 at best (hell, I was in drag). Score? 6.6. I thought my Pattern score would be between a 6.3 and 6.5. Score? 5.8

I now thought my Free Study entry was possibly good enough for a Top 10. That implies a 6.8 or above. Score? 6.1. Not even close.

That's the current "cluelessness" I'm referring to. I'm not clueless as to how to take a picture. ;)

Wow, you have a few at 6.3. Good luck, I bet it will be a bit higher when voting closes...nice score !

My score is above my average, but I'm also disappointed. I thought it would do better, and that's what gets me. I'm stuck in the "score close to 6 zone" and can't get out. It's my scale and expectations that disappoint, not comparison to others.

I know that, dear. I'm not picking on you specifically, but trying to provide a little mediation on a recurring phenomenon. It happens every so often, feelings get hurt, the "offending party" gets offended, and everyone gets grumpy. A little more understanding on boths sides couldn't hurt, eh?

Incidentally, that sort of cluelessness is how I feel about nearly every photo I enter. ;-)

Thanks for that explanation. Makes perfect sense. I've yet to find a clue on what to expect for scores here.

Now, if you'd care to bottle a little of the clue related to knowing how to take a picture, and send a free sample east, I'd be much obliged. ;)

Doc, I know what you're really worried about... so let me console you. I'm at 5.29 right now, so I won't be beating you... this time...

Apparently you have to buy a piece of equipment I sell. I've sold a lens and a body and both buyers ribboned within a few challenges. Only Leroy has yet to experience the mojo.

I'm on Holidays now - so I thought the last day of the year would be as good a time as any to end my DPC hiatus.

True to form, I got home (after a very big night of new years celebrations at a music/folk fesival), processed my image in less than 5 minutes and hit the submit button a full thirty seconds before roll-over.

I'm pretty happy with the score, so I'm glad I made the effort.

Would you consider a rental fee on your equipment...just for the ribboning photo of course! I promise to give you full credit....lol.
