RE: the elements of a still life.

While I personally preffer more austere compositions, many classics are incredibly full. Just look at some of the Dutch Masters compositions. They have the entire contents of a green grocers stall on the table! Along with various utensils and cloths.

So it's not so much about what, but how it's presented. And as others have said, the LIGHT.
