That's good. Hopefully she is not suddenly phobic of bikes ;)

I am all in a state of anticpation over how my "fill the frame" entry will do. A week Thursday is too long to wait!

Thanks for your good thoughts. :)

Wow, she looks to be healing fast - good news! And what a beautiful girl. The boys are going to swarm around like flies when she's a teenager. Better keep that proverbial shotgun handy :-)

Well, the good news is that there is just about zero processing that you're allowed to do to it anyway! :)

Haha, true. I should say, I haven't had the heart to open them up on the computer and pick which one I want to resize. :-)

Also, formerlee: thanks :)

I'm in the same boat for "Entrance". I don't think most people won't catch the connection between the photo and the challenge subject.

Be sure to look at jaysonmc's portfolio and website. He definitely does not suck.

Hehe. Another father of daughters and I kid around about buying an old shotgun so we can clean it when dates come to pick them up. It doesn't have be functional, or even real. Just so we can be cleaning it at strategic times. We wouldn't even mention it, just chat about the upcoming date, or recent movies, or whatever.

Yeah, no kidding. But she wanted to ride her bike again the next day, so that's not going to be a problem. :)

hahaha, thanks for the compliment. However, just look at my average on DPC, it's lower than yours. :)

Plus I just entered Wildlife III last minute. Let's just say as far as animal quality it is severly lacking.

This wildlife entry has been a nightmare for me ever since the exif data got screwed up on my first batch. I've got one in, but I had to do a lot of editing. It's a pretty interesting capture, but I've worked so much on it I can't even tell if it is a good photo or not. Normally I wouldn't fret, but since wildlife is kind've my thing, I want to do well in this challenge. Oh, well, there's always free study, which I already have in and will not touch. (Almost no editing - always better, in my book.)

As you know, wildlife is what I like to shoot too. I felt the same necessity to do really well in this challenge. Then I thought about how many times I go out shooting and get very little that's worthwhile. Wildlife photography takes time, and it's hard to order up something great in a week -- especially when there are other things to do as well. My entry is weird, and not a great shot. But its interesting to me.

That's all that matters in the long run, unless you are considering selling the photo - then I guess it matters more if it appeals to a mass audience. If your recent work is any harbinger, however, I predict it will score close to if not in the 6 range. How's your match entry holding up, btw?

Sad when a Canon rep doesn't know Canon products.

From the Canon Web Site:

"The EOS 5D is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup (except EF-S lenses), ranging from 14mm Ultra-Wide to 600mm Super Telephoto lenses."

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi - "Fully compatible with over 60 EF and EF-S Lenses and a wide range of EOS System accessories."

Both use EF lenses.

Perhaps the sales rep meant EF-S lenses.

Well, I apologize to everyone for the bad information I posted. The rep probably had it right, and I obviously took bad notes. I've learned my lesson. At least it got a good discussion going that may have helped Sickdog with his research.

Hey, it's no big deal.....no harm, no foul, and you learned something from this as did we all.

I've noticed here at TSHQ that if you step in it and make a faux pax, you don't get ridiculed, 'cause a little quiet_observation goes a long way.

Hee, hee!

Sometimes I crack myself up!

I'm surprised at my Wildlife entry......it was a pretty serious departure for me and highly experimental.

I doubt if anyone will believe a word I say anymore, but I still want to tell you a little about the session with Vincent Versace. These are a few of the one-liner notes I took in a dark auditorium -- some things to think about. Many are obvious, but we can lose sight of them from time to time.

- There is a difference between a photographer and an image-maker.
- The difference between art and a seed packet is miniscule.
- The captured image is in service of the print. The print is in service of your voice. Have the print in mind at the point of capture.
- Let the photograph take you, donât take the photograph.
- See past the obvious. Donât see the rose -- see the light, shadows, patterns, and textures.
- Light is as solid as the subject.
- We are taking pictures of light, and the subject is in the way.
- Dark is as important as light.
- Shape is the enemy of color. Shape will overpower color. Create images where shape is the unwitting companion of color.
- Only one small point can be in true focus. DOF is the area of acceptable out-of-focus.
- Learn the rules so you can break them with knowledge.

And this is the clincher meant especially for us:
âNobody but you can say your work sucks. Plenty of people will try to make you believe your work sucks. DONâT HELP THEM!!! Love your work!â

Wow! I just skimmed through the thumbnails of the Wildlife challenge, and it looks like there are a lot of really good shots.

Hey, don't worry about it!

You have soooooooo far to go before you step in it like I can naturally.

It happens....8>)

As to the saying.....I take pictures for me.

If you like 'em too, great!

My ribbon pic of the truck?

I had matted and framed that and had it on my wall over the computer, where it is now, before the voting ever opened.

I'm glad y'all liked it, too!

Vincent sounds like he likes to talk with zen messages. I'm not sure I believe too much in that sort of airy-fairy language, but I guess each to their own, and if he says one thing that is useful then that is good, yes?

Well, I just put an entry each in Minimalism and Fill the Frame.

I'm happy with my Fill the Frame shot, but my Minimalism shot sucks.

Sickdog, you are too funny. I'm still laughing. Well, that's what you get for entering a toilet in a challenge.
