Question for the CS2 experts. Is there a tool for straightning an image? In PSP, you can draw a line along the horizon or a line that you want to be level, and then just double click and it will straighten to that level. I can't seem to find that tool in CS2.

I found the arbitrary rotate but you have to keep guessing at the number of degrees to rotate.

I've been running in my woods all week, I run every day, and the last week I've been running with my cam:)

there's a tool "correct perspective": edit/transform/perspective, maybe it can help?

duplicate your background as a layer or unlock your background. Then you can do Edit->Transform->Rotate and rotate it by dragging until it looks right.

In CS2, you can also use the a Measure Tool which looks like a ruler under the the Eyedropper tool.

Select the ruler, click at one point of the horizon/edge that you want to straighten, hold the mouse down and extend to an endpoint on the horizon/edge. Let go of the mouse. Select image rotate canvas, arbitrary. It will show the degree of rotation and direction (CW, CCW).

there is a grid tool - very useful - I believe it is under View - Show - Grid. you can change the size of the grid under Edit-Preferences- Guides and Grids

very helpful for rule of thirds pickyness too

silverfoxx you should put some antlers on your head and take a photo of yourself running around in the Norwegian snow :-) I would enjoy a nice crazy wildlife shot like that, and would give it a great score!

:)) hehe, Catherine, that's what I actually did, so I'm sitting now editing my crazy snow adventures from today.
I think I looked wild enough so even the most conservative voters would enjoy it:)) hmm, maybe I should upload one of the photos as my challenge entry?

I just put an entry in for Minimalism - I didn't believe that I could do something with a photoshop crutch. And it is appropriately weird.

Juliboc you will appreciate this. I had the opportunity to photo a wood stork in the wild today. Not a pretty boy, but sure fun to watch. Even caught him eating and drinking.

It sounds like our environments are similar. While I can usually find a Wood Stork on demand, I can't rely on getting a good pose or interesting shot. I did take one for the Wildlife challenge that was interesting, but chose a different subject to enter. I think we are so lucky to have these wonderful creatures around us.

BTW, I hope your camera date was set right today. What a bummer to have that wrong. Of course the photos you took are still valid, just not for the challenge.

I was very fortunate in a wildlife capture yesterday, and while the photo is not of quality to enter in contest, I'd like to share it to raise awareness of this beautiful bird, the Wood Stork.

The Wood Stork almost went extinct in the 1980's due to excessive construction in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina (the only states in which is lives). The numbers dwindled to less than 400 breeding pairs, if memory serves. Due to a conservation effort spearheaded in Georgia, their numbers are again on the rise. I felt very fortunate to see one in the wild.

I agree it probably wouldn't do well in the challenge, but good job on exposure. It is so hard to capture these birds out in the bright light without blowing out the highlights on their backs.

Thanks for this tip. I didn't know about the ruler. When I need to straighten the horizon, I pull a guideline down from the edge of the PS window, then I use the rotate canvas>arbitrary, and guess at the amount. It sometimes takes several tries. I will try your method next time.

I reset my date, but had a card blow halfway through a shoot today...I did finally get a new shot for wildlife I like though. Certainly not due to lack of effort!

Looks like I will be shooting for minimal and fill the frame tomorrow, but just using minimal editing for both shots :D

I think I shall go check the time and date on my camera. I suggest everyone else stop whatever it is you're doing and go do the same.

And Jeff, that's one of the most interesting comments I've had in awhile! :-) Apparently Ursula got a kick out of it, too.

I suggest everyone fill in the camera data when they upload their photos. That forces you to check your exif data and provides useful information for people looking at your photos.

and thanks to quiet and the rest of you suckers for taking me over 10k views! :)

That's a ton of comments! I think I have 5. I'll hopefully get to voting in that one tomorrow. It's not an Icelandic sunset, is it?

Correction - 7 comments in MP II, 20 in Best of. Scores to be determined at rollover but neither are in the 6's. At least the Best of wasn't when I turned it off and it had over 100 votes by then, and the MP II can't be with only 5 comments.

i was reading the above on the number of comments the photo has gotten. I have a number of shots on my profile and tick a few in the forums for C&C and I get very little comments, good or bad. My questions is are my shots just plain uninteresting?
01/20/2007 06:08:52 PM · #1549
In the forums I believe it's hard to get comments on most photographs. In challenges, you need to enter something considered very good or very bad to get more than a handful of comments.

I was happier with my score when it was at 6.6. Oh well, it's still a 6, and the comments are postive. My Best of 2006 is still at 5.8 with 20 comments and 1 favorite. I'm not in anything yet for next week, and all my attempts have not turned out. The weather is horrible, so I may be stuck inside tomorrow--and hopefully get an entry or two from studio work.
