Like this, maybe. Seems to highlight the problem of lighting, as it has now gone from over-exposed centre to under-exposed edges. Full-face blitz is the culprit, I'll wager. Nice shot of your boy (I assume), but not too high on the pictorial quality without considering the subject.

ETA - it's the girl, right . . .

Very nice.

Unfortunately I was only playing with the original, so don't have any EXIF data left that would be accurate I'm sure.

The blowing out is my fault more than from a flash - I was trying to get a particular look (which in my sleep deprived state I am completely blanking on the term for, even though it's a common one).

I've entered Wildlife with a strange shot. I have no idea how it will be received. And I entered Entrance with a shot I think is lots of fun, but which I think will suck in the ratings.

I'm not complaining about my score, but someone must have hated my Match entry, because in just two votes it dropped from 6.5+ to:

BTW, juliboc how is your photography seminar going? Are you going to share some of the great tips you pick up there? (Please?)

I just finished a lecture by Vincent Versace. It was fabulous! I took notes, and hope to share some of the points he made when I have time to write it up tonight.

Sorry, I'm too tired tonight to write this up, but I will do it when the convention is over.

I just noticed an interesting thing. Today I saw a lot of Vincent's prints. They were breathtakingly beautiful and sell for $700 - $1000 apiece. But the interesting thing is that when I look at them on his website, they are nice, but not really spectacular.

He said in the session today that it's very important to learn as much as possible about printing, and now I see why. It stands to reason, that no matter how good the image is, it takes that final step to make it a fine work of art (and to be worth the big bucks). The paper he uses is really nice and that's a very important part of the printing process.

The best presentation yesterday was by Jeff Dunas. He is a renowned Hollywood celebrity photographer, but he also has a number of personal projects that have been published as books. Be sure to check out his slide shows. They're QuickTime movies with music.

BTW, he only shoots with film and he does all his own printing. You will die when you see his price list.

Had to do this.....8>)

Juliboc you will appreciate this. I had the opportunity to photo a wood stork in the wild today. Not a pretty boy, but sure fun to watch. Even caught him eating and drinking.

Julianne, sounds like you're having a blast! I'm ever so envious!

Playing with stuff I've been finding on my hard drive - in the spirit of this week's challenge (not an outtake, not a "natural environment", unless jungles have concrete steps), here's a nice big kitty:

And in the weird perspective arena:

I've also stuck up a couple of flamingo shots and an outtake of my leopard from the Spots challenge.

And here's the sharper, cat-free alternative

to this:

Seriously serious wildlife shots being demonstrated here - inside and out of the concrete jungle. Bummer on the slanted heron - not that I would have given it more than nine or ten anyway...

In fact, I just looked at the noraneko profile. You're overdue some huge scores and - dare I say it - (dare, dare) ribbons...

And as for LFC, you have all the bragging rights for BigEars, forever and ever amen :)

Raish, to say you just made my day is a colossal understatement :-)

I was very fortunate in a wildlife capture yesterday, and while the photo is not of quality to enter in contest, I'd like to share it to raise awareness of this beautiful bird, the Wood Stork.

The Wood Stork almost went extinct in the 1980's due to excessive construction in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina (the only states in which is lives). The numbers dwindled to less than 400 breeding pairs, if memory serves. Due to a conservation effort spearheaded in Georgia, their numbers are again on the rise. I felt very fortunate to see one in the wild.

Lovely shot of the wood stork, Catherine. Where did you shoot?

To anyone interested in getting a card reader - I found the little Lexar one I bought for about $25 CDN to be well worth the price. Now I don't have to worry about my poor li'l camera getting frozen, I can just pop out the card and take Mr Card Reader to the nearest Internet computer and plug 'er in!

I just downloaded my Wildlife shot. Must admit I had to do a whole lot more editing than I would do normally, but there were so many extra bits of critter cluttering the shot that I had to be pretty ruthless.

Now off to go and shoot either for Entrance/Exit and Fill the Frame.

Scores on Battle and Match slowwly creeping up. Probably won't break 5 but who knows?

i just got my wildlife entry logged up. I am bloody happy with it, but as in my prediction i think it will score 5.500 if i get above this i will be very happy as it will be my first challenge entry in 2007,

I have just popped one in "Exit". I think this again will score poorly as it leaves a lot to imagination. Out of the box entries seem to bomb a lot on DCP
