Tremendous, thoughtful, images. Congrats to everyone who entered. This has been a nice 'present' just going through all these. Thanks everyone!

I just thought I'd add- I've never given out so many 9's and 10's- and I think they deserved them.

I agree, there really are some great shots...and funny ones! I scored pretty high as well.

And on to my score...

12 comments here and a bit more distance between my initial posting in this thread. And man - I wish I could figure out which images were Jutildas and Jdannels. I'm gonna have to go back and look at them again with greater detail. ;)

Man! Mine has really been unstable, jumping from 6.0232 down to 5.1433 and now it's on its way back up again. All of this in less than 24 hours. I'm hoping the upward trend will continue for the next six days. ;-)

Luckily, the trend seems to be holding at a steady incline...

Mayebe I'll make my goal. On another note, I really thought more people would enter this; people here are so vain, I thought we'd be in another humungous batch of self portraits again ;)

I'm not sure I like the fact that many people - in some instances - recognise the photographer in the challenge (having included themselves in the composition) which have led to some very "in house/all in the family" type comments. Nothing to be done about it I know, but still it seems a bit unfair.

Exactly the same thing happened to me and we are running almost exactly the same score right now...

I understand what you are saying, but if one is comfortable with knowing the person in the image, just do like I do, and either mark it on it merit, or miss it, and go to the next image.
I sometimes think it balances out is the end.
Many people can regonise peoples styles, but thats the way it is, as we all develop a style that suits us, and if we do it will, then the score will show that it.

I don't think this really makes that much difference; I think by far the majority of the voters don't follow the forums that much and can't really identify the players by face. And of those that do and can, I believe most of them vote fairly anyway...

Stick around long enough and really pay attention to the images that go up and you wont need a face to give you insight into whose image you are looking at. I think that just because someone knows the image is mine that they still tend to vote straight on my shot. If anything I get lower votes (see the first post in this thread - I think those were based on people sick of my images). Sure I may get more comments on some of my images because people recognize me but what can you do. It is flattering to be recognized and it is also nice to be able to leave a comment that may be a bit more personal. Its all just good fun.

For me it isnt so much a sense of vanity (I mean look at me and some of the comments I have gotten about my eyebrows and the need for a shave regarding my sticky image - I am not a pretty man). Some of us just dont have the models needed to pull off the shots we want. We work with what we have.

I use myself in challenges often, but I think only a third of them are over my average score. In the last self portrait challenge I had one of my most commented on entries and had a 5.7ish score.

Yep I hear both of you Robert and Tim. Gotta trust the integrity and intelligence of the DPC members...which I do (especially the forum chatterers).

I agree it must be a real feather in one's cap to have found a style of one's own, and then be recognised for it. Ahhh...one day....

It's something like people standing in a gallery and saying "now this is a good example of Monet's x period...." or listening to opera and being able to identify the Soprano. It's what artist's strive towards: individuality of style.

I'm guilty of using my own 2 models too often (my children) - but hopefully in different contexts and compositions which keep them fresh:-)

Sorry for sounding tetchy...

I think you have to have a sort of personal evaluation following voting - i.e. look at the score and decide if that means there was something wrong with the picture or that there's something wrong with the score.

This is a bit odd (for me to say now) because I've been steadily rising from around 4.8 to 5.3, which is nice, but when I glanced through the pictures it seemed every single one was better than mine. Nothing to grumble about there, though - kudos to everyone and a happy new year!
