I am in the market for a new body. Which should I go with? The guy at the store told me that he would recomend the D-80 over the D-200 cause it has newer technologies.

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I'll get a point and shoot.

The D80 does offer some features not included in the D200 such as in camera editing. The D80 also uses the same sensor (10.2)at a lower price. D200 is however a more durable body. It's not made of plastic, and it has better seals.

At the time I switched to digital, I might have swapped to Nikon for the D200 instead of going to 20D path :-)

Part of the reason I got the D80 was that my wife would be using it on occasion. She is not very camera savvy and the D80 has programmed options the D200 does not. This allows me to put the camera on whatever auto setting best suits her shooting needs and let her shoot. The D200 would not allow this.

The 200 is a bigger heavier camera.

As a long time Nikon user, the biggest advantage of the D200 over the D80 is its compatibility with older manual focus glass. That literally opens up thousands of lens options that aren't a viable option on the D80. Sure the older lenses will mount on the D80, but no metering or flash metering is possible. With the D200 not only do you gain all the ambient metering options, but flash metering also. The D200 even puts lens data in the EXIF information.

This will likely sound dumb to a lot of people but it was the 8-way rocker switch (as opposed to 4 on the D80) that sealed the deal for me. IMO the controls are much better laid out on the D200.

My advice would be to look at buying new high end glass instead of a new body. The glass will always make a bigger difference than the body. Once you get a couple of good lenses then go for a body upgrade. The D200 body just dropped around $400 and will likely drop again when its replacement comes out. Newer technology will always be there.

Just my 2 cents.

nahhh, get a life (or a family). I'm only here cause my wife is at work and my kids are (amazingly) being quiet. All the rest of the relatives don't show till tomorrow afternoon. i'm enjoying the only 'alone time' i;m likely to get.

Mixing up your multiple accounts? Or just replying at random.
