Help!
I'm trying to save an image to upload for a challenge. In trying to be meticolous as I can (sometimes the smallest details can hurt you) I'm making sure the color profile is correct.
I am working with sRGB on my system. When I do a 'save as' (not save for web)- .jpg, I check to embed the sRGB profile. If I re-open the file in CS2, I get the warning that the color profile doesn't match the working space (the working space is sRGB)
Worse, when I uploaded to the web, and viewed the image on the browser, it is totatly different, looks something like AdobeRGB color space. My browser is IE7. Does IE convert images to the AdobeRGB color space - or some other color space?
When I open the saved jpg in CS2, it appears that the image is the same as the psd side by side regardless of whether I choose to keep it's color space, or assign the sRGB, so the jpg compression doesn't seem to be the problem. It is uploading it to the web and viewing it on a browser that the difference occurs.
Am I just being dumb? I can't figure out why the embeded profile isn't 'sticking' when viewing on the web. Is there a thread I should be reading?

If you're using the same working color space as the image there won't be a warning when you open the image. Since there is a warning this would seem to indicate you're assigning a profile that isn't the working space.
Most browsers aren't color aware, they use the default sRGB space regardless of what you specify. Safari, IE, and a few other browsers on the Mac are aware when their color settings are enabled i.e. ColorSync. If you're using a windows based system you'll probably notice changes if you're not converting to sRGB before saving. |
