A few days ago I posted this image -
I am trying to develop a very illistrative kind of look ... I think that this one comes close to what I want ...
I did this one over the past day
I kinda like it ... but I need some feedback ... does this style bring something or does it just look overprocessed.
I know that it is not for EVERY image ... but I like the stylized look for some
Thanks

They look great to me.
Sure would love to see some info on the lens used, camera setting, lighting, etc..

They were shot with the D2X (raw) - Lens was Nikon 35-70 2.8
The original images was shot at f11 250th
a photogenic 300 b with a profoto 1X4 lightbox was used as a hair light in the 2nd one in the first a sb800 with a white diffuser.
the 1st image
Main light- profoto 1200 and a wesscott halo
Fill light - profoto 600 with a larson 3x4 box
there is a kicker to the right a JTL 300WS something with just a reflector
2nd the 600 and 3x4 with out the front diffuser was used
Extra hilighting and shadowing was done in post.

I'm no expert, but it looks really good. Very slick. Only thing that sort of bugs my eye is the hotspot on her shoulder in the second shot. |

Did you use Neat Image or some kind of softening?

Well if you want my 2 cent´s worth I think both are overprocessed and very "cartoon" like for my taste anyway, whatever that is worth, especially the later photo, forehead, lips, right arm and cheeks especially just look plain doll like.
Not trying to offend you and most definately not the gorgeous model as I see the problem lying in the post processing and not her. Keep in mind that I personally never smooth out skin in my shot´s with the exception of taking out pimples and stuff like that so I am biased and as long as you like this, that´s all that matters but you asked for an opinion and this is mine. |

I agree ... it is supposed to have a illustrative or airbrushed look ...
That is what we were going for ... not your standard model look and yes for that it would be way too overprocessed.

Depends on the look you want - They are way too far for my tastes but I can see the artistic benefit to a style like this -> Sort of a computer console type look :-)
Edit: For this look, I think the 1st is a better image.

Nope not NI... the bottom one is about 11 layers in CS2... NI makes blobs of everything and I never use it...

Well if that is the look you are going for I know that look quite well and my advice for you would be to tone it down a qute bit as in my opinion you are overdoing it. |

I think the second one could be improved if you softened the hard vertical line in the highlight in the centre of her forehead. Apart from that I think you've achieved the result you were after quite well. |

your intention was to create some sort of 3d rendered model, right? that's what I can remember of the other thread.
I think you did it with the first one, the 2nd one is a bit overdone, even for 3D ;-) |
