Hello everyone, I have a Canon Rebel XT, and I'm just wondering how bright the focus points are when the camera locks focus. The reason I'm asking this question because the brightness seems too little for me to notice in my viewfinder. My friend has the 20D, when it locks focus I believe the entire focus boxes light up, unlike the XT only the dots do...and for my XT the dots aren't bright enough to catch my attention...please share your experience with your XTs...thank you very much.

My XT shows bright red dots where it focuses. They are bright and not easy to miss. They look like this

The red lights will show up for a second or so when you have achieved focus. Depending on what focus method you have chosen depends on how many focus points may light up. In bright situations, yes you can miss the blink of the red light. But the best advice I can give you is what I have learned. When focusing don't be looking around the view finder for the red light. Keep your eye centered in the frame and let your peripheral vision pick it up and also have the tone on, that helps.
