| oh dear, its a shame that your sister has to receive a vicious beating so close to Christmas but I find its the best way to stop people touching my camera....... :-) |

As far as I know, it will be about $130 to fix the same problem on my 5D. However, it appears that the 5D has a simple cassette that slips in and out that has the pins. The guy at my shop told me that some of the others require soldering individual pins onto the board or something crazy like that which sounds like a lot more work.
Hope you get it going cheaply. I have also heard rumor that Canon would fix it once under warranty for free. Not sure about the validity of that though...
