Well, its not quite that bad. On Monday I'll be sending the 20D back to canon as it has the same fault as it had a couple of months ago (TFT failure). I can take pictures with it but without access to the menu, well, you know. Its now 3/4 months out of warranty but am expecting to get it repaired for free as the same fault was fixed 3 months back.
As soon as the 20D comes back the 1DMKIIn is going in. Still a month left on warranty, the battery is not holding its charge - drained then fully charged I may have 8 days charge with the cam turned off and no pictures taken whereas it used to go months between charges.

batteries are only good for 1000 or so charges, and they won't hold a charge anymore. is it possible your battery is shot?

I'd need to have charged my battery 3 times a day to hit 1000 charges, doubt its been charged more than a dozen times in total. I've just recharged it and noticed I can put it back on the camera with 1 hand (fiddly 2 clip for weather sealing I guess). I may ring canon and ask if they want the charger back as well.
I've seen replacement batteries for about 50 pounds but think canon sell for nearer 100

one thing i've noticed with my batteries/charger - is that the charger doesn't always realize the battery is drained and starts the charge process midway - like the battery is mostly charged. i have to reseat the battery a few times into the charger until i get the single blipp on the charger - indicating a drained battery. actually my cell phone charger does the same thing - gets annoying at times.
also i've used after market batteries from an electonics big box store that run about 1/2 $$ of the canon originals, and haven't seemed to have any issues.
all your batteries do the same thing - or do you only have one?

Am going to try and drain the battery again, that makes a lot of sense Tim. A second battery for the 1D is on the list soon as well.

Don't forget to add on the cost of the glue and the string.

| I am trying to decide on buying my first "real" camera. I am currently using a D70 that I have the opportunity to purchase for 400.00., buy I am really being drawn to the Rebel XTi. Any thoughts or comments would be most helpful. |

well the ones i buy work dandy - digiPower - but ecce's camera takes a different type battery anyway.
at least you didn't damage the camera. i'd advise minding the direction in which you insert the CF card as well as which batteries you purchase... ;}
