The producers at NBC had to decide -- between the taping and the airing of the show -- whether to cut the bit or buy the domain name. They paid $159 to get the domain name and activate it before the show was on. |

Before Conan said 10 years, he said they paid $159 and my first thought was, NBC got ripped off. lol
I'm just curious if it's also a rule that the must buy it for 10 years?

Once Conan mentioned it on the show, the possibility opened up that some enterprising watcher would purchase the domain name and put up something truly offensive. NBC doesn't want people to look up this website, thinking it's connected with them, and find porno or racist hatemongering or whatever. So their policy is not to make references to imaginary websites which they don't actually control.
