i recently took a picture that would probably be one of the best i've ever taken if i had only gotten it in focus.
does anyone have any advice of what settings to shoot on for street photos?
i shoot with a sony cybershot f828 (8mp). it's awesome for landscapes and architecture but i don't know how to make it take fast paced street shots.
any help would be... well... helpfull. |

Hey Chris, I love street photography and I have sooo many image in my head from when my finger has not even got to the shutter in time, so the fact you even took the photo is a start ;)
Its hard to know exactly what you are talking about without having seen the image but the way I aproach the situation is, every corner I turn the light will be different so I try to set by camera accordingly anticipating that something may happen. but more imortantly I will look at the "street scene" and think to myself if something interesting was to happen where would I have to shoot from and where would I struggle, so positioning in the end will be more important than camera setting's. But I guess in general I would set the ISO to 100 and use aperture priority (at around f4-5) but that is canstantly changing.
But keep in mind that an "out of focus" interesting shot can be a lot more appealing than an "in focus" standard shot.

thanks!
the problem is that i have had this camera for a long time but i haven't bothered to learn much about it.
the picture i'm talking about is one of the current challenges and is doing moderately well despite the terrible focus.
it's about something that i care very deeply about and would have been an awesome pic if i was more ready for it.
i saw the shot and took it quickly but had i understood more about street shooting, it would have been incredible.
i've been kicking myself about it all week. |

Hey Chris..I thought i knew every thing that i needed to know until i took some shots ( on film )of my daughters Graduation..Every thing was there, the backdrop of Sydney, ( Harbour Bridge, Opera House etc ) and when i got them back from developing, Beautiful Black Backgrounds. Stuffed them completely..
I went straight out and enrolled in a basic course to operate my camera, best money i have ever spent..Only advise i can give someone, invest if you are passionate enough about what you do.. |
