I'm in the market and I'm looking for reasonably high number of megapix (7-10)and full, easy manual control. Sharpness...lowish noise are all in the mix of things to consider but that goes w/out saying.
Thanks in advance.
BTW the Fuji E900 looks ok and the Panasonic DMC LX2K is also in the mix.

| DMC? Does meet challenge? Sounds like a camera for me. |

High megapixel usually gets you more noise, so don't get too caught up in the marketing game. I like the little Fuji F series because they do pretty well in low light when compared to similar cameras.
If you find a P&S with easy manual controls, let me know.

Look at the Fuji F30. I purchased one based on recommendations of other shooters who wanted a P&S to throw in the pocket as well as a "highly recommended" rating on DPReview.com (a rating that is extremely rare for a P&S.
I am pleased with this camera, particularly in low light where it absolutely shines.
There is currently a $50 rebate on this one too.
edit to add, you can shoot auto, manual, shutter, and aperture. ISO up to 3200. Auto will put you in auto-iso mode for low light.
