The pics in your gallery appear pixelated.

They are.. there is a note under it.. says " please excuse the slight pixilation as it is in an attempt to make this sight viewable by everyone: including those on dail up"

i'm going to try to make the gallery smaller as to keep down the pixilation or something...

any other comments?

I would get rid of the round buttons. It makes your site look very "1990's"-ish...

I like that it's easy to navigate and you've got some wonderful photos. There are a lot though. Perhaps if you go through and do another hard edit, and just include only 5-8 of your very best photos from each catagory, your portfolio will be stronger overall. I assume you want to showcase your best and most diverse work so be ruthless and remove repetitive shots and those you aren't totally in love with. My two cents!

Hi Kat!
Just some quick comments:
1. Suggestion: The categories âAnimals ~ Children ~ Architecture â¦â Can be made into hyperlinks, and when your visitor clicks on them they get directed to categorized subset of your photos. For example, if they click on the Animals, a set of animal photos get displayed.
2. On your âServicesâ page, âProfessionalâ needs more tidbits. If I guessed correctly you wanted to convey that the pictures you take are professional, is this right? If so, you may want to add a bit of fluff. The text itself as placed in the middle of the page without additional info while the rest of your highlighted items have details is kind of out of place.
3. Also under âServicesâ you used âMyâ and then used âWeâ â I think you should try to be consistent and stick to either one.

Things I would change
1) Make the size of the frames fixed, browsing from 'home' to 'gallery' shifts the main menu around - this should never happen.

2) Logo is not effective enough for me, its too big. below the logo 'Animals~Children~..~' seems out of place, your main menu can go there.

3) Fonts in the page 'Services' has Times new roman and Arial. Stick to one font

Just few things I noticed in the first look. I don't intend to be harsh, just my opinion!

Pictures can be resized to a much smaller size without them being pixelated. If you use Windows XP, a free addon know as 'Image Resizer' does a great and quick job for you. File sizes are reduced down to <20kb for 640X480

OK.

Remember, this meant to help.

First off, there is no real 'design' on the index page. It's really just a splattering of different elements. There is no coordination in color, style or theme. The buttons are out-dated looking, and the color and shape un-attractive. The title is too soft and blurry looking. Text is on color that can't be easily read. There is no focus on the page to guide the user through the page.

I think your photography is fine. There shouldn't be any pixilation, even at 'dial up friendly' But IMO, you should be able to alienate some dial up users in order to gain quality. You just need to make a determination on who you think your primary audience is.

My suggestion would be to look at a website template. There are literally hundreds of sites that offer them, and often they don't cost very much at all. Then you can add your own custom graphics and content where needed, and use the style and color of your chosen template as your guide

Sorry, don't mean to be brutal, but the www is a big place. There are tons of photographers with really nice web sites. I'm not even very happy with my own site, and I'm a designer. I tried to integrate a galley site into mine, just don't work to well. Sometimes, working on your own site is the last thing you get too :)

Less is more, present your work cleanly and quickly as possible. And I agree with most of what is said below. Remember it is meant to sell you and your services.. If it means forking out for a pro designed site or buying a template, then do it.
